How what caliber are we talking, b1n0g? We still use No. 8 .22 Enfields and the massive f*ck off 7.62mm L81A2 Target Rifle. We also use the L98A2 and the L86A2 LSW from the SA80 family for shooting and blank firing.
i don't remember what it was it's been so long all i remember was it was an absolute monster to hold especially for scrawny gits like i once was haha was most likely the Enfield only used it once or twice when we went to one of the camps on a weekend
I think we stopped using the old .303 enfield in the late 90s or so. We've been using a lighter, shortened .22 conversion since then for shooting practice before moving up to the larger, deadlier platforms.
It's still fun not having to worry about stoppage and mag change drills though
Tac, in the air cadets you can get the equivalent of 4 C grade GCSEs and every Thursday we are either outside with camo coming out of our ears lol or shooting etc and Mondays we do a bit of parade and a bit of classroom but mostly Flight sim. So no, not all in a classroom.
It differs a lot per area. I guess you have a lot of air cadets up there? There's a much smaller contingent in Hampshire, we share a detachment with them parading on alternate nights. They have 11 regular cadets, we have about 44 army cadets all turning up on a Wednesday night. We can't even fit in the main hall for parade any more lol.
We get the BTEC in Public Services offered to us and just about everything else. There are frequent shooting weekends including target rifle com...
Competitions and National Clay Pigeon competitions in Yorkshire, as well as many lower key range days and skill at arms weekends.
The ACF and CCF wipe the floor with the SCC and ATC in the CISSAM competition every year, and we've produced shooters who've gone on to do international competitions. We even have one cadet who is the 6th best shot in the UK!
As for fundraising and community relations.......every year my detachment raises over £1000 for the poppy appeal while the ATC raise barely £300. Make of that what you will.
As you said before tac, there aren't as many of us. In our sedgemoor squadrons poppy fundraising is compulsory for everyone to join in and expected to give some too.
