i still have quite a few years to go before i start the training but i needed to get the ball rolling so i can get on some courses and the first one is to go and shadow a platoon commander

well you dont exactly choose which platoon (platoon is small), as an officer you you put in choices of where you would like to go and they say if they want you or not, as soldier you choose a certain job trade.
