Anything in particular you're finding lacking? Obviously not perfect for everyones budget but my go to for molle/belt mounting have been the Esstac KYWI's for a while, WTFix straps are a nice upgrade from traditional MALICE clips alongside them. Granted I pick them up from Tactical Kit, and I'm not sure exactly what the shipping situation would be over to you at this point in time.

+1 on Esstac Kywis with WTFix straps.  Alternatively G Code Scorpions.

They are going on a Tactical Tailor 2 piece Mav for long range tournaments and a sort of old school look.

at the moment I'm leaning towards closed top pouches because realistically speaking I don't need super fast reloads and I'd rather have the magazines sheltered from rain and debris as we are out in shit weather for 8 hours + and generally navigate through shit terrain.

Possibly in a colour that doesn't look shit on OD green too :D

How many mags is it you're looking to carry, both in general and per pouch? I tend to run single stack on everything bar a Spiritus Micro these days (he says having not played in months) but I'm aware that's primarily because I run mags on my front. Double stacking being much less of an issue depending on where you want to mount them. Flap wise are you looking for buckles or velcro?

Single stack only, no more than three mags + one in the gun (might cut to 2+1). Placement right next to the buckles + one on the left (will take a picture later with some random pouches to give an idea).

Retention whatever really, velcro is noisy but if I feel like I need to reload I might keep one of the flaps tucked in for a makeshift open top.

Links purely so you know what you're (potentially) looking for, hopefully if any look worth a go you're able to source them conveniently for you.

Tasmanian Tiger make a single flapped pouch, though it's buckle rather than velcro. Available in Olive, possibly too 'modern' looking for what you're going for.

Templars Gear don't make a single, but their double comes with cord to sinch them down. Unfortunately Olive seems to be pretty much the only colour they don't come in.

Flyye seems to tick all the boxes based on the description, but the photo looks decidedly like it's double stacked.

The standard Flyye "single" is actually a double stacked pouch for two helpfully.
