Do it, once you go GBBR AEGs are never the same.  I run my GHK AKM and my MWS almost exclusively now.  I haven't used an AEG in over a year and don't even consider buying a new gun unless its a GBBR.  Limits your options and therefore spending quite nicely, though I am soooo tempted by an MP9, GHK 553 or VFC G3.

AEGs can be a pain, especially when no matter how much time and money you put into them, they still don't match your expectations...

To be honest I like my AEG's, I just wish they all had stop on empty features. I had an MWS some time ago and while I enjoyed it,  I had concerns about longevity in the field for longer events due to having to carry gas in addition to everything else. If I were to go to gas then I'd be going into the AK's from GHK but I would probably hold onto my MP5 and  P90.

I think the main hesitation is whether or not I'd be able to effectively liquidate the collection to get an AK set up how I'd like with all the trimmings.

I loved my MWS and seriously regret selling it

you could look at getting something like the Tippman M4, I think the kit with the HPA setup comes to around 450-500 - plus you're able to use your AEG magazines which is far cheaper and easier to maintain than GBB mags. To be honest HPA gets a bad wrap from people who spray kids down with 50 BBs per second, but having less moving parts to maintain is always a plus, you can always get a HPA kit and drop it into one of your guns if you do some research on what to do

GBBs are really really fun, but they need as much TLC as any good AEG does.

I disagree with that, I think once you have an GBBR up and running its pretty simple to maintain, key is not to fuck with it too much.  Certainly easier to work on actual mechanical parts you can see than the magic contained inside a gearbox, but maybe thats just me

@FreeFrag.UK A GHK AK I can talk you through the needed upgrades if you ever decide to buy one.  They are pretty simple

It is pretty simple yeh if you know what you're doing. I've had a friend who splurged about 800 euros on a GBBR (do not remember what he bought but it was stupidly expensive) and never did any maintenance because "I use green gas so it's fine."

If you know about GBBs then maintaining them is easy, but as you said - if you fuck with them too much then its a recipe for a disaster. I would kill to get a GHK AK but lockdown has be endlessly skint haha
