Cringe in Airsoft

i wouldn't go that far, there are definitely decent hpa players about, hell one of the best airsoft days i've had was on a field were only a couple of people weren't running air yet the sportmanship, hit taking, general cameraderie and lack of douchebag behaviour was as close to perfect as you could ask for.

but i will acknowledge that there's enough people to make the stereotype a valid one, hell i even fell into that pit myself only to learn the hard way that no amount of dakka can penetrate plot armour and the only way to solve the problem of targets failing to acknowledge hits is to find a better quality target. meanwhile you realize that you've become the asshole when the shortest burst your gat can deliver is 5 rounds.

there are definite advantages to hpa, the trigger response on basically any solenoid system is nice, and even a good aeg struggles to get anywhere close. do you need that fast a response? no it absolutely does not make the difference between winning and losing but it sure feels nice.

with the right engine and supporting hardware the accuracy potential is as good as you're going to get on a smoothbore musket, but it isn't a magic bullet and the wrong setup can and will fail to hit the broadside of a barn from inside aforementioned barn. wether or not such accuracy is necessary is basically down to your playstyle, and imo the game works well when the "just get closer crowd" keeps the other guys at bay so the "stand and plink" crowd can cover from afar, so both playstyles are equally vallid.
Maybe these players exist, but as a player and a Marshall haven't come across them. Played CQB last weekend. There is a three in the air rule (good rule). Got sick of playing after being triple tapped in back for the 12th time at such short range there was no discernible gap in hits. Guess what? Prick with an HPA'd Hi Capa with AR mag adaptor every time ( split between two different players).

I have met some decent HPA users and some who push the limits beyond what could be called sportsmanship.

One who stands out among the latter was a chap with a pistol and an AR mag adaptor in a semi only CQB village, who was holding down a doorway with a ridiculous rate of fire and a stream of BBs. Yes, technically he was running semi auto; however, it was faster than most people’s full auto.

The HPA pistol/AR mag combination often seems to be an indicator of twattery.

If the clone ones are anything to go by he must've had wrist like a teenage boy thinking about said lesbians. With mine I can probably only manage 2 shots a second
At my age I'd need an hour to recover.

slight edit...

At my age I'd need AT LEAST an hour to recover.

To be fair, about 50% of patches are cringe inducing.
True but at least with the morale/comedy ones you know the wearer doesn't take things too seriously, even if the joke isn't that funny

But what if you're trying to do a seal in Iraq kit? Historically accurate..

Or a punisher kit? (Yes I have considered this for comicon)
If it's to recreate a real life loadout then fair enough but in my experience 9/10 people wearing one aren't.

Thinking about it I'll add the pork eating crusader patch to that list. To me it screams attention seeking twat

I have three patches; one is the Atropian flag, another is one of Ian McCollum's "penguin brutality" patches that my son gave me (I went south in '82), while the third is a Swedish Chef "Vert der Ferk?" one, which is on my Swedish M90 jacket.

I hope none of them are cringeworthy.

Was gonna get a penguin brutality patch too, dunno why I didn't at the time, was maybe out of stock.

Love the penguin brutality patches! Plus Swedish chef is the opposite of cringe.

Not at all. I had to Google the Atropian flag and I like it. I took to playing opfor too, in cqb I wear British blue opfor dpm. I was also tempted to pick up a penguin brutality patch but never got round to it and the Muppets are never cringy.

Had to google the patches, quite like the elbonian, reminds me of the texas flag I think ?, not so keen on the atropia flag, but i do now want to watch the film.
While searching i found this penguin patch, kinda like the irony

Bought this one for myself a while back, yet to field it, thought it was kinda apt given my current health issues lol

I don't know why those AI generated patches always go for high res. They'd look much better if they went for a cleaner, simpler design

I'd say my two biggest dislikes in this sport are:
People who don't who don't play fair (trigger spammers in cqb to the point it is essentially full auto, people who camp spawns, people who go to a game with the express intention of hurting someone ect.) I've always maintained from the beginning that everyone paid to play, just like you did, and that it is a moral obligation to not act like a prize bell piece on the field. In the hopes that all players can walk away after having a good day. I'd rather be able to give someone on the opposite team a hi five, than have their day ruined because I thought it would be badass to laser them in the back of the head at 5 feet.

The other one that gets me, almost more so, is people who rock up and then act exclusionary to other people on the field, because they somehow think they're "cooler" than them. Like schoolyard kinda attitude. It's fairly rare in the communities i've encountered over the years, but some people seem to forget that they are also playing toy soldiers in the woods.

I don't care what you look like, what kit you run, how new or experienced you are, I don't care if you have silly patches or ones you think are badass, if you act like a decent person, and play the game with honour, you deserve respect, because you are making the sport better.

When I started airsoft around 14-15 ish, I was a very nervous and anxious lad, I was going through a lot in life, and didn't have any healthy distractions, the relationship between me and my old man had reached a point of breaking, and airsoft was a last ditch effort to find some common ground. I will never forget the big, gruff looking people who took us in and treated us with nothing but respect, something that I had never really experienced at that time, outside of my own household. I'll never forget the way we were always included, never left alone in the safe zone, within 3 times of going we were invited to join a team and play a birthday event at the outpost. I'll never forget my rental gun dying in the field, being to socially awkward to want to say anything and some big badass dude setting down his lsw next to me to use, whilst he fixed my rifle for me.

To me, that is what airsoft is about, a community of like-minded people sharing in a mutual hobby. One based on respecting others and being honourable. At nearly 30 now, I carry the same mindset those folks did, i'm always happy to have a chat with someone, if I see someone struggling, I help. If everyone on the field had a little consideration for those around them, this sport would be unrivaled. Human nature dictates that not everyone will do so, but I still see those good eggs out there.
