Total beginner here, have bought a Cyma 506 AEG rifle, can anyone tell me what this button is for ?

Welcome ✋
No picture visible. Do you mean the button on the left side? I'm guessing you mean the bolt release. It may not do anything on yours. If you pull the charging handle to access the hop adjustment, you may be able to press under the button to lock it open and then press the button to close it.

Sorry about that, hopefully the photo is attached now. The button doesn’t have any effect on the hop up ?

Its a "forward assist" or according to Afghans an "accuracy button" its to make sure the bolt have gone into battery all the way. 99% just for looks on an airsoft gun and does nothing although I have seen a brand called GHK bring out a functional one for there line of gas blow back rifles.

On a real one it is the forward assist, which can be used to fully chamber a round if required. On your replica, it does nothing.

Thanks, that explains why I couldn’t get it to do anything🤦🏼‍♂️

Ah yeah, does nothing with airsoft replicas.
