Yes, most gas guns function (and often field strip) much the same as their real counterparts. Some electric guns function like the real ones, but that's more limited to a charging handle or bolt release operation. I don't think anyone makes an SA80 that's as unreliable and prone to jamming as...

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm also in North London, NW3 at the moment, but 2 mates that i go airsofting with are both in/near N15. I usually go to Reforger (King's Langley) and RIFT Redcon. (Oxford) Not having a car does make it a bit harder.
