Krytac CRB first outing and upgrade bug

Hey all,

After much reading of reviews and recommendations, I bought a Krytac CRB last week. I actually got the SPR too as I couldn't decide but that will go back this week as I felt more comfy with then CRB.

after 3-4 games with rentals, this thing is phenomenal! I know it's not much of a comparison but first game (only 20mins long) I was hitting people at 50-60 yards with ease and amounted a good 10-12 hits.

So, earlier than expected, I'm already keen to upgrade a little to enable me to run .28's with ease. I went with .25s at the weekend and they held lovely for about 35-40 yards and got me around 282-285 FPS which isn't bad out of the box.

Anyway, I will add a red dot at some point, however, I'm keen to up the power to the 350fps limits most sites seem to have. I'm considering a spring upgrade but not sure which it has and which I should go for....can someone advise and recommend?

Also, I'd read somewhere that the Prometheus barrels give 20-30fps increase, is that right? Seems a big jump! Even if it's not going to boost power, is it worth it for the boost in accuracy once the power goes up?

Lastly, I'd like a suppressor on it. Nothing massively long but preferably one which fits snug in the outer rail.

I appreciate throwing £100 or so at a rifle i have just bought may be daft (or maybe not) but I guess that's me :-/

Other than externally totally leave it alone. It will throw 0.28s fine out the box.

A prommy barrel will add nothing the krytac one is fine.

Don't get caught up in the fps race those extra 25fps you are trying to get will add nothing.

A TM Recoil at 290fps can match most guns at 350fps for range and accuracy. My primary sits smack on 322fps at the moment and will keep up with DMR's shooting 400+fps. The best way to increase range is your hop unit and bucking and you already have good stuff off the shelf.

That FPS seems low, what weight BB did you use at the chronograph, if 25g, what airsoft site allowed you to do that?

Are you aware that the site limit of 350 fps will certainly be with 0.2g BBs and that more weight = less fps. Most people say that 270-290 is the fps sweet spot with the heaviest ammo you can use while staying in that range is best.

I expect if you put 0.2g ammo in that gun you would get ~325 FPS which tbh its just about right, as 350 is intended to be 328x1.1

Also for future reference, it is generally considered dishonest for health and safety reasons (and cheating) to knowingly chronograph with anything other than 0.2g BBs at a 350 FPS limit site.

To be honest, I loaded up with .25s without thinking and it hit 282ish on the chrono. I mentioned this after And retested with a few of the sites .2s but didn't catch the figures, just the "that's fine" from the marshal. I was too keen to go off to the test area to get the hop set for the first game to ask for the figure.
I was tempted to go the next spring up to get as close to site limits and throw a .28 BB better, but it seems it may not be needed.

Changing the spring will improve it slighly but it will only be slightly. Just be prepared for the fact that jumping up to a 110 might push you slighly over so the spring might need clipping and the bottom coil reflatening.
Before you start doing that you need your own chrono.

Save your money and leave the original barrel in place. You could try improving the airseal by adding ptfe tape to the bucking/barrel. If however you were going to extend the inner barrel (which is really the only reason other than cosmetic for fitting a "silencer") then you would get an fps increase with the longer barrel. How much of an increase would depend on the length and diameter of the new barrel vs the original. Personally I'd have kept the SPR if I wanted a longer gun instead of fitting a pretend silencer to the CRB.

SPR has a longer barrel so for them to have the same fps it would possibly have a weaker spring. Mine was 405fps until I downgraded it to 350

This confuses me as it was my understanding that the trident range would give me the same capabilities no matter the model I chose. How would a longer barrel or longer gun help in that aspect if they are indeed all much the same capability wise? So why would the SPR be stronger out of the box?

When I shouldered the SPR it just felt too long for where I play. The CBR felt right in the shoulder hence why I kept it. I also wanted to add a suppressor (if I'm honest, it was for looks more than anything.) which would make the SPR even longer.

When adding a suppressor to my 'proper' rifles I've not needed to extend the barrel so I didn't contemplate doing it with these.

I do have access to a chrono, so that's not an issue, however, I've not really the knowledge yet to take a gun apart so would employ someone to do the upgrade work for me. I would request a power close to 350 possible, although from comments made, it's not the be all and end all?!

Also, fitting a suppressor to the CBR wouldn't extend it much (probably only 2-3") where the SPR is already 4-5" longer. Just felt long to me already.

In the future I may play in larger wide open spaces, but at the moment it's in a small Forrest with a tighter game arena hence my choice.

Absolutely, a novice oversight but it was rectified before the game began.

I wouldn't bother upgrading anything to your Krytac. I'm using mine exactly as it was when I brought it. Did put a lot of crap on it though. Mine is wired to deans and I use a 7.4v LiPo which chronos around 323~328 FPS. Do play with the hopup to get a bit more range. Mine is set around 7.5-8 which I consider the sweet spot on my gun.

As for suppressor, if you want just for the looks go for a tracer unit, at least it will give you that look but it will add a cool feature. (You need however glow in the dark BBs)

My SPR was second hand and possibly an import (although it still had a 20k motor so not sure) I was told by my mate who sold it to me that it was all standard as he hadn't even skirmished it. I used it as a DMR so the fps didn't concern me. When I sold it I downgraded it to 350fps though but it was only 350 on 0.2g BBs when the hop was set for 0.3g, again this suited me as I run 0.3g in woodland anyhows.As for a longer barrel helping, it will add fps over a gun with the same spring but a shorter barrel and it is easier to change the barrel on an AEG than it is the spring.

I'm not a fan of long guns which is why I use the PDW, it has the same range and accuracy as my SPR had at the same fps but is much more maneuverable.

Some airsoft sites have limits between 328 and 350, I would suggest just forgetting about your fps, I've been to games where i'm just "hoping" to pass chrono because 10% of my shots were over 350. At the mall for example just 1 (less than 10%) shot over 340 is sometimes a fail.

On suppressors. Some do work to mute the sound a little if they're designed to, some are 100% cosmetic and as above only really used to disguise longer barrels.

A tracer is not a bad idea.

As advised above, working on your gun's efficiency is a much better use of your resources than trying to agument the function.

Efficiency can include, air seals, barrel cleanliness, gear stuff, tamiya/deans switching, optimising your choice of battery, and just drilling with the gun.

Other efficiency alterations can include zeroing your sites with your hop (+clamp) rather than by eye (complex and unnecessary in this application).

Checking you like the gun's pistol grip/trigger guard and finding a more comfortable sling/buttstock.

With the gun you have there is very little need to open the gearbox and I think most here would say that as a newbie (DIY or being ripped off by a tech) you will not get an improvement worth the time and money when considering the quality and balance of the starting position with that gun.

Your next step should be researching how to clean the barrel and how not to accidentally damage your hop rubber with silicone (lots of threads on both of these). And buying some good midcaps.

I'm going look at moderators/suppressors but will leave internals for now and just enjoy the gun. I will order a bottle of .28s next order and see how they go, although, .25s seemed to fly and hit well enough.
