The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread

I've a nose like Rudolph, got hit between my goggles and Delta Mike (lots of blood, very little pain), smashed glass in my red dot, but the best Sunday game I've ever had

Even as the saps that had to attack you it was a fantastic day. A ton of fighting, and team kills, as both teams were forced into one direction to attack the scientists. And Paradise is hell to attack an entrenched team, especially if you're wearing a bright white shirt ?

Yeah, a bright white shirt will definitely do it, but mad props for keeping the cartel look all day with it; I was honestly expecting more, as last time there were quite a few loud shirts out, but this time there were very few. I think I might've hit you a few times on the flank near the field as I saw and shot at a white shirt a few times so I had to move because I was sure you were zeroing on my position when a burst went right over my head!

I think we need to play down in Paradise more. There are some pretty long sight lines, but there's also quite a few ways to break line of sight, and plenty of foliage to ruin shots. I think it'll be more manageable when players learn how to play it, but we never get the opportunity :(

I was also hoping for more bright shirts, but it is what it is. Still somehow got team killed a few times  ? I've played a few times down in paradise, hopefully it gets more use, though it's proper creepy right now, with all the canopy cover and dead branches around.

Ended up heading out for a game every weekend for the last 3 weekends (including yesterday). It's been forever since I've been anywhere close to that regularly, thoroughly enjoyed myself each time.

1st was a woodland game at Dagger Woods in Preston, only issue I had all day was ear pro not sitting comfortably and my trousers being too big. Opted to attach my Peltors to my helmet to fix the first issue, and some correctly sized trousers for the second. A very active day, Dagger is a very weird woodland site because it's pretty small so it feels very intimate. Lots of opportunities for flanks, and that is high on the list of shit I love.

2nd was for the second day of the 'Shift Your Rifts' event at Redcon-2, first games at a brand new sites often kinda suck for me. You have some decent engagements but I generally find I have no idea what's going on or where I'm supposed to be going. Unless a site is run like absolute garbage or I just get an sense that it really isn't for me I'll tend to try a site 2-3 times before I'd say it's actively bad, getting a feel for the lay of the land can really sway how enjoyable a site is for me. So yeah, a lot of aimless wandering. Ended up with a nasty muscle strain in my thigh in the morning from the very heroic act of... standing up from crouching a bit too quickly, boy do I love getting old. Back to warming up ahead of game days for me from now on. Took the rest of the morning off to have some painkillers and wander around to keep things as limber as possible, popped on a compression sleeve and played the afternoon keeping to a smaller section of the site. Corrections to kit worked out nicely.

3rd (yesterday) was back to Dagger Woods. Had a great time as I always do there, this being my 4th game at the site. Thigh was much better but I made sure to be 'responsible' around it, excluding game two where I decided to run around like a moron retrieving canisters... 9 of the teams 11 retrieved that game. Ok, I was more responsible about carrying an injury in the afternoon. Outside of that just a really solid day, good hit calling, good marshalling, all my kit behaved bar wiping about the QLS receiver for my holster doing a slide into cover retrieving 1 of the aforementioned canisters... like a twat. Fortunately the cheapest part of my holster setup to replace, so though I won't celebrate breaking something that's somewhat of a silverlining.

Two week break now until I head back to Dagger Wood for their final game of this year (unfortunately the site is only open for a few months of the year), and then off to Com's Site 3 the weekend after that with the same group of friends from down South that I went to Redcon with. Thoroughly enjoying getting out and playing at the moment, long may it continue ?.

Of all my years of paintballing and airsoft I have never taken a shot that made me hit the deck like a bitch until yesterday. Shot in the soft part of the throat and adam's apple at almost point blank range. The easiest decision ever at home when I ordered some neck protection.

Had that happen to me, not nice, a choker, quite literally, only hit that was worse than that was one got past the nosepiece of some shite goggles, hit the little round ball shape bit in the corner of the eye nearest to the nose, quite literally put me on my knees for 5 minutes, needless to say those goggles were banished in to a ?, lest anyone else picked them up and suffered the same fate ?

Yeah I was downed for about five minutes from that throat shot but I cringed just reading about that "corner of the eye" hit part..... Jesus.

Pretty fairly awesome today.  My DMR was struggling and had move curves on it than Christina Hendricks, then locked up half way through the morning. But I quickly figured out the culprit, the idiotic Specna Arms quick-remove (why?  whyyyy?) pistol grip base, which had popped out on one side and canted the motor.   Replacement grip belatedly ordered now.  Easily sorted, then a quick reseat of the barrel in the hop unit took care of the curve and then it was laser beam accurate out to 2,000 airsoft metres.

I get that DMRs and snipers are very site dependent, but today was the happy hunting grounds for us, as the other team was rental-heavy and so focused on their objectives that they rarely realised that they were being flanked and picked off.  When you can place yourself right, that extra 10m really does make a huge difference, if only by allowing you to be where they don't expect you.  For once, my DMR got more use than the MP5K, although some castle storming was done as well.

This was despite the day being badly run, with all the usual airsoft foibles: one clueless marshal on chrono, late starts, long delays, a mumbled "You all know the score" briefing, rentals gone wild, test shots in the first game and never again, and on and on.  I can see why other people would have had a rotten day, but...

Pretty Meh! day today..was good this morning and had fun using the MTW setup as DMR on 0.4's and testing out the new Scopecam 2.  Switched over to the WE AK74UN for the afternoon game, but things went downhill...gamemode was attack and defend on the whole field..but was not fun fighting on a 30Degree bank and people were tired/grumpy and being twats...a lot of full auto into people going on.  Decided to call it quits with about an hour to go as wasn't fun at all....Which is the first time ever that I've walked off a field.  Complained to the marshals, but having only 2hrs sleep the night before, may have dampened my mood for the day...and but mid afternoon I just got fed up with the snail pace gameplay and people being twats...I think about a dozen peeps also had the same idea and quit.

Oh the AK74 ran great and the Ra-Tech heavy recoil kit kicks ass...was a lot of fun playing with it before things went south on the playing field. (Having to pick your shots with only a 30rnd mag is nerve racking...buy satisfying as well)

what team were you on at the RIFT weekender?   i was there both days on red team and camped over.
hope you recovered from the thigh strain though.

off to Com's Site 3 the weekend after that with the same group of friends from down South that I went to Redcon with.
comms site 3 is a great site, and chould be pretty enjoyable for you. havent been there for a couple of months now though, and i know the original safezone area has been taken by HS2 (booo!!) and they are getting a new safezone area made up.
as for the game zone, they have made a number of improvements to structures etc during the quiet times over lockdowns

ouch...
that sucks.   and definately a wise move on the throat protection

If memory serves I was on the red team, I spent most/all of the afternoon in the 'tank graveyard' area. Of the bits I saw that was probably my favourite part of the site. Truthfully I probably shouldn't have played this weekend, but I imagine I'll be fine by the time I'm playing next, appreciate you saying so.

'Conventional' woodland sites are probably my favourites over all, especially if there are a few structures so I'm very much looking forward to it. The folks from that group of friends which have attended before say it's their favourite of the RIFT sites so fingers crossed it holds up to the praise... granted it's all subjective at the end of the day!

nice.  i was also on red team both days.  the tank graveyard and echo base (the base inside the big mounds beside the range) are two of my favourites too.

in case you aren't aware, there are pics on their website from the weekender at www.riftairsoft.com .  some of the pics have got mixed up, so check out the albums for both days and play "spot yourself in among the bushes" XD

found some pics of me...

hopefully playing this weekend hasn't aggravated your injury too much

there are quite a few structures to explore, and some brick trenches to use for cover.
"pumphouse" is my favourite area of comms 3, but i will let you have fun exploring the whole site ?

Oof. Do you have anything around your neck? I've always worn a shemagh or scrim scarf around my neck for this reason.

Nope. For the most part I 've gotten by without being shot there. This is my typical loadout I run with absolutely no neck protection.

Sometimes I'll throw on a shooters headset or even regular ones to protect my ears and that's about the sum of it. But after Saturday's reality check I'll be making neck protection a staple, you can bet on that. Won't be going through that level of pain and discomfort again.

More of a quote than a summary:

"If I give it a bit of a shake, it'll go to semi."

Ta for the heads up, looks like I managed to successfully camera dodge for the duration I was there. Photos from my first game back following restrictions lifting went up today from the Dagger Woods lot though. Can always rely on photos, to remind you how old you're getting... I'll be sticking to the helmet from now on I reckon, keep those greys under wraps ?.
