Good afternoon chaps and lady chaps,

I've got my ICS AK74M in pieces to upgrade a couple of parts. The piston, head and associated bits are winging there way to me so as I had a Maple Leaf 60 Macaron hop rubber sat there, I've thrown it on. Now, I've took the hop unit apart and there is a spare bit that I've no idea where it goes . .

So, part 1 will be replaced with part 2 but where on Gods green earth does part 3 go?

That's a weird 'part'  - almost looks like a cut off section of an old bucking? Has it got the usual ridge inside of it? Irrespective, I wonder if the guns previous owner (presuming you bought it second hand) used it to slip over the outside (front) of the bucking to increase air seal...

Sometimes AK hops can also suffer with the hop lever migrating, so plausibly the owner also used it slipped over the adjustment lever to add friction and prevent that?

Certainly my Cyma AK hops do not use anything looking like that.

It looks like a bit of heatshrink;  I wonder if someone put it on the cylindrical part of the slider to try to make it a little less prone to moving.

it seems mighy like it's intended as a spacer, i've often used them particularly on pistols.

it's just a bit of stuff to pack underneath the nub to get a little extra lift when there's not enough regular hop travel to spin the bb's i want to use. commonly a cut up square from the skirt of an aeg rubber is a good option but i can see heatshrink doing the same job.

you probably won't be needing it when you change to the omega nub.

No, its like a tiny piece of rubber tubing.

Good call but it feels a little too rubbery for it to be heatshrink.

This makes sense. After another look at the bucking I've taken off, you can see that it is deformed around the nub area. So I presume that it sat under the nub.

Thanks all.
