Sniper rifle upgradability

Hello folks,

Trying to decide on an airsoft rifle for mainly target shooting (please don't shoot me!), and assuming they last over a year or 2 with proper maintenance want to plan for the future.

Currently in Ireland, with a 1 joule limit. I was looking at buying one here, and then if I move abroad, upgrading it then. I'd likely be moving to Sweden after a while - 10j limit.

My question is then, which rifles can I upgrade? I'm looking at a site called Main Irish Airsoft, and it's between most of them - cheaper the better I suppose.

A&K Dragunov probably is the best from my research, due to it taking a regular AEG spring available from anywhere but it probably works out as the most expensive due to having to buy scope mounts,scope etc. (possibly bipod).

I'd love the Steyr SSG 69p2 because it's cheap! But I can't find anything on upgrading it online. Same for the ASR2 kit (handy kit!). I have a sneaking suspicion their internals might not be able to handle a bigger spring (m150 perhaps?)

i have a dragunov with a new hop unit from a G36, its firing at around 430FPS with 0.30g its not the power your looking for, its all well and good having a 10j limit but if you dont know how to handle it then you may as well invest in a water pistol.

Power is not everything my dragunov has the ability to hit a target in excess of 250 feet in the right conditions, you will find the more higher power gun you buy the more unstable a light round will become so for a 10j rifle even with 0.43g BB' you will find that its just too powerful frwhat your intending to do with it.

Everything has an effecton your shooting some of the following i shall list:

Wind: headwinds slow the round down, tail winds dont speed the rounds up but makes them unstable and can make them nose dive, cross winds can curve a round at ranges.

Temprature: even the outside temprature can afect a BB if its cold outside then its likely te round will constrict making it 1000ths of a mill smaler but cold air is heavier an also falls this can affect BB's range especialy if your using 0.20 rounds.

Heat can also effect BB's by enlarging them by again 1000ths of a mill heat can draw a BB upwards and thus you can miss a target by an inch at range.

Weather: all factors into this from above rain will slow the BB down dramatically its like trying to put it through a swiming pool you wont have good range even from a 0.30g BB and also rain will force the BB down to the ground so you do need serious compensation for this snow is even worse and personally wouldnt bother.

All guns if cared for properly will last i have log books for all my rifles airsoft and air rifle so i can document every aspect of its life and some of my rifles are early 12 years old and my XS78 from SMK (air rifle) is nearly 16 years old but still in full working order.

Personally the dragunov is an easy sniper rifle however if you want a traditional scope you need to alter the rail mounts so the scope can sit on top of the rifle, if not the only other scope that can befitted to it is a PSO scope which is side mounted and slightly off centre to the left.

A good begining rifle is a mauser SR either the 93 with the thumb hole (like the L96A3) or the SR pro they have top mounted scopes and also a BI POD for extra stability, both are bolt action with 20 round mags, and personally in a sniper rifle use 0.30g BB's as these ive found have the better accuracy and range.

Using a scope if so i personally would opt for MIL DOT and i wouldd some serious reading into the operation of these scopes, as you can do so muc with them its unreal from wind to range and hold overs, and if you are wanting to go to the next level start using a DOPE book (Data On Previous Engagement) this tells you alot about previous shots and can help you learn from past mistakes.

Dont think you can just attach a scope and away you go its not that simple zeroing takes time even with a laser bore sight to get the perfect accuracy will take you anywhere between 100 rounds and 1500 rounds (the PSO Scope on the dragunov i have took me nearly 2000 to get it exactly the wayi want it).

If your unsure on employing scopes and the likes PM me what your thinking of buying persoally i only use real air rifle scopes they are more relable and durable and it is also a wise not to get a fixes magnification scope to such as a 8x42 mildot for example.
