Sniper Milsim

Hello all,

I'm finding my way into airsoft and like what I have seen on YouTube, I've been watching a lot of kicking mustang etc. 
 

I have a background in Bushcraft and have worked as an outdoor Instructor for the past 10 years, I've worked all over the world from Antarctica to America. I'm also an ex-reservist. I already have the skillset to live comfortably outdoors, navigate and move through environments unnoticed. After watching the YouTube videos I really like the idea of gaining experience to attend Mil Sim like events as a sniper using camouflage and concealment, ghillie suits etc. Ideally someone that lives in the field under a tarp at night, working on my own or in a small group with radio communication carrying out reconnaissance, being in point position for a section and or targeting certain people. Does the type of play exist where I would have this opportunity?

Ohh boy this isnt going to open a can of worms.....

Just so you're aware mr mustang is a bit of a contraversial figure here, its not so much his capability as a player but certain elements of his sportsmanship as portrayed for the youtube clickbait arent the best role model for the sport.

However, lets put that aside and welcome to the forum.

If your interested in playing i'd suggest starting off small. Find yourself a local site and book yourself in for a few rental games.

You wont be outranging anyone, but if you've snuck up behind them that's not a problem. Honestly if your sneaky enough in this sport you can unironically get kills with a nerf gun.

Now the usual advice is to stay back from sniping in the short term, aeg's are the good all rounder and you can still play the stealth game. But you'll get more of a feel when you've played a few games as to wether or not your happy being limited to single shots.

The side advantage is getting yourself setup with ukara. As i'm sure luminous orange isnt the look you're going for.

You sound like your no stranger to running around outdoors so we can skip the whole "good boots and surplus dpm" preaching, only thing you'll be wanting is some good eye/face protection.

As for the milsims yes there are events in the uk, although best get setup with the basics first.

I have the local sports ringmakred and will be visiting them after a bit more of the dust has settled with them just reopening.  I've had a read about UKARA and my local sites have shops.

I have a set of Bolle clear goggles with black frames which I use for Winter Night Navigation to keep the snow out but aid visibility. I wonder if they will be good enough, I'll take them with me.

Are there many Milsims that would allow for sniping/recognisance working in a small team etc.

pretty much it's jumping on the "cheater shot in the balls with 500fps sniper super painful" clickbait bandwagon, intentional headshots (that is to say portraying that he's trying to get headshots when there's a body shot available), iirc there were allegations of running hot too.

some folk say he's not as bad as all that IRL which may be, regardless it's what he's choosing to portray himself as on youtube.

i wouldn't worry too much about it, was more just a heads up before some of the more creative nicknames for him appear

UKARA will let you order stuff online, so be sure to shop around, although a brick and mortar store can be good to let you get a hands on feel for a gun see if you like it.

bolle are a decent brand, but be sure to check they're rated for impact protection, regular sunglasses aren't going to cut it.

regular skirmishes you can generally go lone-wolf, if you have comms you might be able to join up with anyone else running them and do recon.

milsim's i'm not as knowledgeable about, but i'm sure others can advise events that would suit.

Op the sort of event you are asking about do exist.

These are much more milsim than airsoft. So if that is what you are looking for, this is the closest you are going to get in the UK.

I am sure they would be stoked to have someone wanting to sleep under a tarp all night and eat worms for part of a mission. 

As for starting airsoft as a sniper. It is a great option and if you build your rifle correctly, which will cost you the best part of £600. You will be able to out range 90% of the field and have a very consistent shot. 
Problem with airsoft sniping is that the cheap unmodded guns are lacking in power ( range ) and not consistent. So if that is what you start with, it will put you off with frustration.

  
I ran as a sniper for years. Eventually got bored of watching cheaters ignore my shots but not being able to do much about it so not to reveal my position.

I too then became a head shot specialist ( meh if they aren't going to take the body hit, its a kindness to help them better understand the rules of the game )
