short strokeing

hey guys well im gunna short stroke my gearbox only problem is all the vids i have seen on youtube say take the teeth from the back then the next one says to take the teeth from the front ( of the sector gear ofcoarse) so im just wondering if theres anyone on here who has done this mod if so which did you do and did it mess with the cycle of the gearbox etc.

i know i need to remove the same amount of teeth from both the piston and the sector gear and if i want the same fps im gunna need a stronger spring.

I wouldn't have thought it would make any difference which end of the sector gear teeth you remove, I'd take them from the back though, because then the tappet plate will still function the same in relation to the position of the piston.

Try personal messaging Grounded Pilot, he's got a small time repair, maintenance and upgrade service running, he'll probably have a more definitive answer for you.

yeh thats what one of the vid's said then another one said take from the front for the same reason but i will give grounded a p.m

When short stroking, you shave down the last teeth on the sector gear that engages the piston. Each teeth will sacrifice around 15fps IME, but is a brilliant technique to eliminate pre-engagement. Can I ask why you are carrying out this mod?

Also make sure you always shave off the corresponding tooth on the piston. So starting from the last tooth closest to the piston head. Also you need to make sure that the last tooth on your piston is always a steel one as that tooth takes the most stress. Shave down 1 at a time, put the GB together and test the performance so you don't take off more than you need to. I'm assuming you got a high ROF setup? If so, do not go under a m100 spring, something that will cause pre-engagement. Angle of engagement is also essential.

On another note, make sure your piston is always made of polycarb. If it's nylon fiber, you will need to swiss cheese the piston but that's a whole other subject.
