Question on overhopping and new hop set ups?

Hi guys, 2 questions on new hop up upgrades if I may please?

1. What causes overhopping?

2. What would cause a new hop up set up to lob a bb instead of the usual trajectory characteristics associated with hopped bb's?

your problem it has to do with the hopup bucking not coming into enough contact with the bb, which is resulting in not enough backspin.

If your bb's are too heavy, you need more backspin. You should be using 0.2 or 0.25 bb's in this gun.

If you are using those bb's, then either you need a new bucking, or the nub isnt big enough, so when fully adjusted, it isnt pushing far enough into the hop up. Theres also a slight chance that they forgot to put the nub in the hopup unit. I doubt it though.

Remove your barrel and hopup from the gun. Look down the barrel with the hop up fully adjusted and see if there is a piece of rubber pushing into the barrel. That is what gives backspin. If this nub isnt pushing in very far, then thats why you have no backspin. If it is and u still have problems, then try a new bucking and nub.

Brand new g&g green buckings fitted with new hop units.

Gun 1 is a g36k fitted with poison apple hop and g&g green which overhops .3 but travels 60 yards

Gun 2 g&p m4, SHS rotary hop, g&g green rubber, bb just seems to be lobbed and drops at about 35 yards

I always check the function of the hop full on and full off and the central location within the window.

I tried the m4 with .25 and the gun just seemed to lob the bb's but .2 seems more efficient so I think it's worth trying those out to distance.

Different barrels and hop units can give totally different results. If the inner barrel with hop rubber fitted is a very tight fit in the hop unit then that alone can have an effect on how the bb is ejected from the barrel. I've had one case where even with the hop nub fully off the bbs were going skyward after about 15 yards, even on 0.3s. Others were so loose that even full hop didn't stop the bb dropping early as it wasn't putting enough pressure on the bb in the hop unit.

In gun 1, try a different (thinner) hop rubber and see if that makes a difference. Do the reverse in gun 2. G&G green may be good, but they don't suit all setups.

Overhopping is caused by TOO MUCH backspin on the BB, if you're overhopping with your hop all the way 'off' then the best advice I can give is to put in some heavier BBs! Heavier is almost always better with BBs so if your hop can lift heavier use heavier.

Ok I will try the standard g&p rubber and I think I have a prommy purple modded to flat hop and firefly nub in my bits.

Well after an interesting session at the range and a few admiring eyes I finally got my m4 shooting out to 55+ yards by breaking the don't spray silicon oil into the hop unit, I guess sometimes doing the wrong thing works!
