Very tall and obese 310lb. 

Ready to get fit and playsome airsoft. 

I thought I would get some advice from the experts at the forum as I know nothing about the sport and intelligent athletes such as yourselves.

Hi and welcome to the forums.  I'm no diet or fitness expert but from what I've learnt over the years it all starts with the diet.  Cutting out the processed foods, reduce carbs and sugar etc worked wondered for me.  There's also a good thread already, worth checking out.

You're not going to get lean and fit just from crawling through the wood every couple of Sundays (weather permitting), so I'd drop the carbs, get on your bike, and view leaping through the undergrowth as the destination, not the journey.

On the airsofting, the first thing I'd do it is to rent at your local site.  You'll get a basic electric carbine, hi-cap mag and a bottle of BBs, plus some ropey eye protection for maybe £20 extra (and the BBs will be worth half of that).  If you have a bad day due to nobjockey players or marshals, don't despair, try another site.  You don't need camo or anything tacticool, just boots with decent ankle support, and I really wouldn't skimp there as you don't want to have to be hauled out of the depths of Mirkwood with your feet pointing arsey-versey.

I was about 350lbs when I got back into airsoft. I'm now, through lockdowns, about 250lbs and I did it all through diet. With my other active hobby hopefully opening back up next Monday, I'm doubling down on the diet I've gotten lax over during the summer to try and hit my goal for the end of the year (about 200lbs). Let's all drop those excess pounds and up our game! :D

In terms of diet, I did it through keto, then simple calorie restriction. This time I plan on doing both, paired with getting back to martial arts with it reopening. However, keto isn't for everyone, so find what works for you and stick to it. As has been said, upping exercise will really help supplement healthy diet choices, so maybe consider investing in a bicycle and avoid public transport if you're in a city like I am (public transport is disgusting anyway...)

In terms of starting airsoft, rent first, or buy some sort of two-tone cheapo sportline thing for £100 (can pick up a plastic bodied Cyma AK for £100); argument for the latter is that will give you a backup gun or something for spare parts later down the road after you buy a proper, non-two tone once you have your UKARA. You'll spend almost as much on rentals if you enjoy the hobby (3x before UKARA), so it's not a terrible idea, but it should be weighed heavily as you might go to your first game and hate it, which would be a lot cheaper to just rent.

And if you do like it and decide to jump in, don't feel pressured to buy all the things. A simple cheap AEG (some of the cheaper brands have really upped their game over the last few years) and some army surplus kit will work wonders and cost very little.

 
Welcome to the Forum. I can´t give you much of advice since im fairly new to the UK scene too.

About the weight loss, like said above, its mainly diet. In a 100% wheel 70 to 75% is diet the other part is exercise.

Think most of us probably have a few 'lockdown pounds' to lose, I've a few pre-lockdown ones too ;)

Airsoft's a great way of getting out for the day or evening, but it won't make up for a bad diet and no other exercise. It's a part of the bigger picture but it sure ain't a silver bullet. I'm probably just regurgitating what you already know so enough of that.

I'm also new here and what I've learned so far is that airsofters are the same as everyone else (just with more camo) and also that the world of the RIF is one full of acronyms and more choice than you ever thought possible - which on one hand is great, but on the other a nightmare if you're choosing your first RIF and finding it all a tad baffling (like me right now).

I like the idea of some cheap two tone gun. I have a gorilla costume that I have left over from a party. 

I can use it without the head. Should work well in the field. 

Any Idea of a two tone gun. I am not sure I can handle a bunch of 14 year olds brassing me up in doors.  

How about a shotgun. Just something to take a couple of them out.

Yes, wages aren't that high there.

As above, I'd strongly recommending renting at least once to see if you enjoy the experience.

The classifieds are full of "Just unboxed to try it out, never got around to playing airsoft" abandonware.

If you get on with it, then you can either play at least two more times over at least 8 weeks to get a UKARA number / site membership or other way to get your hands on a scary looking assault toy, or buy a two tone right away and then what you do with it in the privacy of your own shed, garage or sex dungeon is up to you.  The BB doesn't know or care what spat it out.

But definitely play first, before sinking money into it.

Thanks Roger, I am looking more for a slow paced game like lion claws. Over the weekend. Have some lunch. More objective based. Win a gun in a rafle.
