Hi All,

Looking at getting into Airsoft as its something I have always wanted to do but never really had the time or wanted to really go on my own, however, I am now 26 and thought 'hey' gotta start sometime!

I know i'll enjoy it as i love paintball and lazer tag (best description i could give it - see here: www.warfighters.co.uk)

So on that basis, I want to get some kit first before I start and have been watching LOTS of scoutthedoggie on Youtube, now I wont be going to that extreme on my first few events, however, i still dont want to 'over dress' so to speak and about another newbie on site who has 'all the gear and no idea'

So basically...what should I get (gear wise) without over doing it?

Second question - Is this rifle good? and is it an OK rifle for a beginner?

Third question (and sorry if this is a stupid one) - obviously there's probably a lot of 'pro' players, do they care about having crap players on their team, or do they remember when they first started out!

First question: This is something you really decide for yourself over the years playing, everyone has different requirements they want from their kit. For starters, concentrate on safety so get yourself some good quality goggles or a good mask (ESS eye-pro is the real deal, can't go wrong with them, good deals on ebay to be had) , then find some good boots. After that, you'll probably just want 2-4 magazine pouches and a couple of general pouches, that should cover you fine. I always take water in to the field myself but not everybody bothers.

Pretty much all my gear when I was starting out came from flecktarn.

Second question: You've only gotta get yourself to 3 games to get yourself a proper RIF, you'd be wasting money buying a 2-tone now and definitely regret it later. Spray paint really isn't anywhere near as good as an original finish. Get your 3 rentals in, try a few guns, and then buy yourself a nice looking rifle, the time inbetween will be invaluable for research.

Third: There are no 'pros' in airsoft, anyone who calls themself a pro is an arrogant idiot. Anyone who gives you grief for being a newbie is a tw*t and isn't worth a single second of your time. Any decent player is happy to have anyone on his team, as long as you play safe ans follow the rules, those are the only things that matter.

I will look at renting then for the first 3 visits and then get a normal rifle!

Is my budget £200 (battery etc..) realistic for a decent rifle etc...?

That vest will do the job fine, I think it's great actually, I might even buy one lol. The one I use is roughly the same but instead of the pistol holster there's another 3 M4 mag pouches.

One thing I would say though, is that pistols are just pointless, I've spent about £250 on mine, getting mags for it etc etc and I've only ever used it once and that was just so the purchase didn't seem pointless. I'd only get one if you're trying to 100% perfect an appearance that requires a pistol to complete.

So in short, the pistol holster might take up room on the vest you could do with having free for more magazines or something.

£200 will get you just about everything you need but you'll most likely have to buy a plastic bodied gun to stay within that budget - metal bodies usually rank the price up by roughly £100.

The rifle you've picked out for yourself is fantastic though, probably the best starter gun you can get. Hire until you have UKARA and then have a look around for the black version, maybe even the metal version if you fancy splashing out, though the performance will be the same whether you buy metal or plastic.

You'll probably find that once you've been a few times you'll be so obsessed that you won't be able to help yourself buying more and more and more and more and more stuff, it's not a sport, it's an addiction lol.

That pistol runs off CO2 and states the FPS at around 400; so unfortunately that'll be over the limits of just about every site, I'm afraid...

If (or rather when!) ;) you *do* get a pistol, you'd be best off going with a Marui or KSC/KWA one. They're some of the most practical and reliable pistols out.

 
Ah OK, no problem then!

To be honest...I'll probably be shot too many times to even finish my first magazine so I am sure I will cope without a pistol for now!

Yeah, they're not really essential unless you're doing CQB or Urban, I've found.

I've ditched taking mine out for the duration of winter; so I guess I'll see if I can cope without it! ;)

 
if you do want a pistol that will be more of a holster filler then id go with a EAP (electric) one as if you get a gas one take it out and dont use it you could waste gas as storing fully gassed mags isnt a great idea and with a eap you wont have to worry about leaky mags

action hobbies have a small range of them and they are not far off the price of the one you posted, i have the cyma glock 18c and it is pretty reliable and looks the part

To make you cry even more. First year I played I suffered from shiny toy syndrome, and ended up with 15 different guns in 12 months!
