Hey guys, am Chris,

New to airsoft and fancy giving it a go, I played tourney paintball for a few years amd now fancy the jump, as title says I've never looked into it so need as much help and advise of what to look into and what to avoid, budgets going to be around £300 for the gun maybe a bit more, and other items and clothing etc I will buy as I go,

Prob missed alsorts off but saying thanks in advance for all the help and advice

As someone who also recently started, read around this forum, theres a bunch of guides regarding being a nooblet on the guide section.

Dont buy anything until you've rented from your local site a few times.

Once youve decided your hooked, speak with your local site about registering with UKARA, again theres a section on the forum somewhere for that.

Get good eye/face protection, all guns work to some degree, but you only get one face / pair of eyes / set of teeth.

Yeah eyes and face always priority before anything totally agree with that, will have a good look through the site when I sober up haha

Likewise, as above. Some sites will rent camo gear as well, but there's nothing stopping you just wearing dark coloured gear. Knee pads in work trousers aren't a bad option, will only cost a few quid from somewhere local and can always be used round the house! Find your local surplus place and combat trousers and a shirt won't rip you more than 30 quid. Getting your own eye protection is a good idea. No need to spend more than £20 for something that works, is comfy, doesn't fog up and hasn't had someone else's fave in it! Same goes for a lower face mask, but £10 is pushing the boat out. Gloves are a good idea. Something grippy and comfortable but still tactile. You'll see plenty of people using Mechanix Vents, and for good reasons.

Only other thing to consider is decent boots. Plenty of grip, good ankle protection and comfy to run around in potentially soggy airsoft sites all day.

Get out, have a laugh, ask people about their kit, see if it's for you and get good at not telling the missus how much stuff costs!

Camoflage gear is completely unnecessary - but usually cheapest option for gear.

Recommending £20 for eye pro is okay for mesh, but for goggles your main eye pro can have an unlimited budget. Until yesterday I had spent more on eye pro than on guns after playing for a year or more.

I got a pair of bolle x1000 ballistic goggles, at £50, felt overkill but yaknow those bbs arent coming through when theyre designed to stop .22 calibre rounds

Yeah looking into that now, just deciding what route I will go down for the look am interested in,

What's the difference with electronic, gas and spring, a few options to look into there, what's the best

Eye wear, goggles that look like motor cross goggle I don't like, seen ones that just look like sunglasses but with mesh in or guessing a heard plastic??

And seen mouth covering again ones its a mesh or a what looks like plastic, I don't really want a full face mask, just the 2 difference so wondering if there's a major difference or it doesn't matter, I would of presumed the plastic and not the mesh style ones wud be the best

lots of info here already about all your questions, but I suggest you look at electric for your first venture into airsoft, more reliable and easier to use plus cheaper overall (gas magazines can cost £50 each and only hold 20-50 BBs

Welcome. I'd offer you advice, but Kash pretty much said it all. 1st is decent eye pro. I'd advise the glasses/goggles eye pro with mesh lower combo. Use the hire guns a few times to test the waters, really make sure you're hooked, and then go about buying a gun when you've found your ideal role. By that time, you should be UKARA eligible anyway so you don't need to mess around with two tones (we all have a giggle when someone rocks up to a skirmish with a ghillie suit, flash hider on the scope, and a bright orange rifle).

Like sniping but not the whole gillie suit, need to run around as well haha. Thinking more swat style all back, but wud want 2 sets indoor and outdoor so then need camo gear, got to be prepared for both occasions haha,

With eye pro you've got the options of mesh or plastic lenses. Both keep out BBs (plastic lenses should be impact rated EN 116 B which should be marked on them, for piece of mind). Also be aware that BBs can get round the edge of eye pro if it's not a close(ish) fit. Spend as much as you feel happy with all the while remembering that you'll not be able to remove them until you leave the game area, and you only get one pair of eyes. Mesh ones work well once you get used to them being there, but I found that they cut down on vision in lower light conditions.

Basically you don't need to dump a wad of cash to get started (that comes later!). Choose a few bits to make sure you're safe and comfortable. Run around with a hire gun to see what sort of play style suits you, and go from there.
