L85 gearbox lock up?

Opened it up today to see if I could make any sense of the angle of engagement, byt since there's nothing I can really do without shims or spacers or whatever, I just put it back together.

Except now, when I pull the trigger nothing happens, it's like there's something blocking the gears.

I can hear and see the motor lurch in its cage, but it can't turn the gears.

I followed a gearbox reassembly guide on youtube and everything in case I'd done it wrong but I'm more or less 100% certain I'm not doing anything wrong...

Any ideas?

Have you screwed the motor in too far maybe?

Nope tried that.

I've tried turning the gears by hand and they seem to move in sort of sectional parts of their rotation, like a quarter turn for example, and then keep getting stuck, I have a feeling it's something to do with the tappet plate, but I've no idea what.

Sorted it now, I think.

When I'd been testing it to see if it worked, I'd been leaving the anti-reversal latch out because being a largely external part I couldn't see it playing a part if I was just going to test fire the gearbox on auto, outside the gun.

But I just put it back on for the last test and it worked. So either I did something right that I'd previously completely forgotten about. Which seems unlikely.

Or, the problem was that the anti-reversal latch is actually needed to make it work.

Additionally, it looks like the holes that the gears themselves sit inside (bushings?) can be taken out and replaced. So would it be possible to upgrade all the gears by getting some 8mm bushing gears...?

Did you by any chance reverse the motor wires, then put them back right when you took it apart the last time?

As regards bushings, depends on what size they are to start with but should be replaceable. However, the gears are usually a standard size on the spindle. It's only the size of the hole in the gearbox casing that changes, although the centre hole does wear over time and therefore gets bigger and allows the spindle to move about in the bush.

Nah I was definitely putting the motor wires back on right, the cables are only really long enough to do it one way around and the side of the connection that's on the motor is colour coded with the wire to the battery so I'd deserve about 9 billion tard points if I ever cocked that up lol.

I think I'll leave the bushings alone until something goes pear shaped in that case, I was just curious that's all, not really planning on doing anything with them/to them.
