How many shots to get a new hop rubber settled?

Yeah, so that's it. I've changed the hop rubber of my Ares L1A1 SLR to a Madbull Shark Black Rubber, from the set that come as 1 clear silicone and 1 black rubber. I also fitted the fishbone spacer that came with it.

I'm getting too much hop with the dial turned as low as it goes. Should I expect it to settle down after a while and, if so, after how many shots, or do you reckon the spacer is causing too much hop per se (as I sorta suspect)? Any other suggestions/advice gratefully received as I want to use the thing tomorrow night!

Best thing to do is take out the inner barrel and have a look down it from the muzzle end with the hop rubber fitted. Without applying any pressure, how much of the bump on the hop can you see? If it's more than just a sliver then it may be a bit deep for the barrel. If it looks OK, put it back in the hop unit, with nub inserted, and check again with the hop fully off. It shouldn't be much more showing than when the barrel was out of the hop unit. If it is, then the nub is probably a bit too big, in which case look for something smaller. I've had similar problems on one of my rifles with the H nubs and using a plain soft hop nub cured the over-hopping and gave me enough adjustment for the 0.25s I always use.

It's the nub. I had a MadBull red hop rubber with the X-shaped nub and it provided far too much hop. Try it with the stock nub?

The rubber did seem to be sticking too far down into the barrel when I checked it before putting it back together, but I haven't much experience of different guns and their hop units so I dunno what's too much or not just by eye. The fishbone nub isn't bigger than the stock one, but it's a lot harder and wider - it only just goes in. The stock one was surprisingly soft actually, compared to the 2 others that I've seen anyway lol! I think I'll swap it and see...

It's the plague of .20s Ian!

Agnes is shooting pretty hot, right? Well the faster the shots, the more spin they get imbued with as they hit the rubber. So you need to get yourself some heavier ammo, lower's the velocity, so there's less hop effect and also adds weight, to give another little drop in hop lift.

.25s are the way forward. Though if it's shooting at 400fps I'd stick .30s in it with a tight bore and run it as a DMR. Especially since it's so massive.

I don't think it will bed in at any time soon, my L85 still suffers from over hop, even with .25s (H nubs are TOO damn good) the only way I've found to solve the issue is to lower the tension of my spring to give me less fps.
