As far as I understand it, it depends on the magnification of the final element and the size of the cone of light at the exit of the scope. If your rifle scope has a large final lens (larger than an ACOG at least) then your eye relief will be greater. More here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye_reliefThat's not true, Baz.
If you ever have a proper rifle scope then the eye relief tends to be more like 3 to 5 inches or so depending on the power.
