If you have removed the mag (which still contains a little gas) from a pistol and the hammer is still cocked , is it ok to pull the trigger before putting the gun away?

Some guns have decockers but these may only put the hammer into half cock.

I sometimes keep my thumb on the hammer when pulling the trigger and let it down gently, but not always. If the striker meets no resistance when the trigger is pulled does this risk damaging the mechanism?

What about bringing the hammer down on an empty magazine?

With a striker fired pistol  like a Glock there would appear to be no alternative to dry firing.

Leaving it cocked would be the worse of the 2 options as far as I’m aware, as it stretches the spring.

Someone may be along to to correct me though.

Thanks to you both.

People in video reviews do it all the gime but I thought I would ask anyway.

it's not as important for an airsoft gun as it's equivalent of a firing pin is being hit with much less force and is much bigger.

really it's only a big deal for old firearms with weaker parts or rimfire stuff where you'll smack the firing pin off the chamber, but in airsoft it doesnt matter.

you might maybe marr the hammer a bit on the top but that's mainly aescetic as the actual striking portion is on the bottom, if you wanna feel safe just let it down gently.
