Well my Madbull receiver set arrived this morn, sadly not the quality cnc article that was advertised by the airsoft shop but after some filing and sanding and finishing it now looks reasonably milspec. Halfrauds sadly only had brown and kakhi in stock so ive had to make do for the mo.

I really should have removed all the paint and the crappy vickers logo

Your thoughts will be welcomed and appreciated.

definitely worth a blast of matt varnish, also, that pattern and colour selection looks great, really different to the standard tan and brown with scrim net that you see on most people's painted guns.

Thanks very much, its scrim and stockings pattern. Turned out alot like snake camo with a bit more depth. Think I'll call it chiaroscuro, a word used by my photography tutor to describe the pattern of dappled light through a tree's canopy.

Arty!

How quockly wil the paint wear if I don't lacquer it?

That all depends on how rough you treat the gun mate! As well as the roughness of the texture on your gloves as you handle the gun, if you scrape it on anything, how it rubs on your gear etc. I'd say you'd probably see wear after just one skirmish.

It looks good mate.

What sort of spray paint did you use?

Thanks for the feedback chaps.

paint is Halfrauds' own flat camo, brown and kakhi, just finished the last coat of matte lacquer (pics to follow of course).

Noveske split end 10" ris on order as is the chrome stock tube and silhouette type front site. Not sure on the outer barrel or internals yet.

Its my understanding that a 400 to 500mm inner barrel is ideal for a full auto but i cant seem to find any comprehensive specs on pistons or gear sets on tinterweb.

If anyone knows where I can get this kimd of info or any knowledgeable airsoft engineers near bedfordshire or advice I would appreciate it.

Kryptec on a gun! Sh!t, it's fantastic! Well done geezer.

AFAIK SHS pistons are good quality as well as great value. I don't know anywhere that has scientific (or close to) comparison data between makes/types though.

Their gears get good reviews too - I have a 16:1 set that I'm very happy with, but they've not actually been under any heavy strain, so I can't tell you how well they'd take a powerful motor and/or M110+ spring. I bought ICS helicals for that in a different gun, but i'm now having problems with them squealing away so maybe i need an ICS piston to go with...

Dammit! Thought I'd reinvented the wheel there! Lol

I suppose it is similar to Kryptek.

Lacquer coat dry, athough not as matte as the paint itself it has to prolong the life of the pattern. The manufacturer's stamp turned out a bit gash and I couldnt find any red paint to fill in the semi/auto marks but doent look too bad from a distance.

So what sort of fps could an m110+ spring generate with a 400mm tight bore barrel?

A 110 spring with a 6.04 x 455mm barrel and excellent compression can deliver 385FPS

But if the seal between nozzle and rubber isn't great &/or nozzle and cylinder head, a 115-ish spring only gets 365FPS with a 6.04 x 455mm barrel

Krylon Clear Coat is worth the extra quid fifty or whatever because it dries really flat matte. Not sure it's worth painting in the fire selector legend, but if I was going to I'd use Humbrol Enamel paint.

that looks absolutely awesome, now do the whole gun and be the envy of all the other kids at your next game!

RE the fire selector, as Ian has said humbrol paint is good for that. If you want to get real ghetto and shiz like, you can just use a wax crayon ;) Rub it into the grooves then wipe off the excess, seen it done before and it looked good!

So, the project so far...

I've given up on buying so called 'cnc' machined parts because they're a waste of money and not actually cnc machined, evident in the casting seams on all the parts I've bought. The chrome PTW stock tube has gone back as its crap and wont take a battery, as has the Magpull stock for being poorly constructed and overpriced. Infact every part I've bought has had to be re-manufactured so that it will fit the gun, even the Madbull barrel nut that wouldnt come close to fitting the Madbull receiver! Whats up with that?

Check it out

And a few of the internals that have actually arrived including a 13:1 gear set to go with 9mm bearing box and aluminium piston.

btw if anyone wants the Magpull backup sights make me an offer.
