Can a shotgun be used in a Semi only game?

I'll ask when I'm next at my local site but what the consensus from the forum.

Would a 3 or 6 shot shotgun be frowned upon in a game that's semi-fire only.

The idea, as I understand it, behind semi is to only have one BB in flight at a time? wouldn't a multi BB shotgun be against this rule?

It would depend on the site

Semi is not one ball in flight at a time but one per pull, as opposed to full auto

A quick enough finger can replicate full auto, but doesn’t have the danger issue

of full auto from snagging on a bush 

 A multi shot shotgun shell sits somewhere between semi single shot and burst fire

Burst fire is a set number of shots one after another, eg one pull of burst giving three BBs in a row whereas the shotgun shell launches three at once 

Assuming their semi rule is a combination of safety and minimising dick players then multi shot shotguns would be acceptable - but up to the site

Pump action shotgun is fine in semi-only games in my opinion, but semi-auto shotguns might be pushing it a bit. Yeah, you have 3 or 6 BBs in the air, but most people can shoot more than 3 BBs on semi-auto in the time it takes you to pump the shotgun and pull the trigger. 1 BB in the air is more of a DMR thing rather than semi-only games from my experience, though the best way to clarify would be to ask your local site as to what they're going for with that.

I've never played at a site that blanket-bans multi-shot shotguns.  I've never heard of a site that banket-bans multi-shot shotguns.  Not even gas or AA-12s (in semi-mode).

Maybe CQB sites should, but here we are.

Can it?  Yes.  Should you? Yes.  Have I? Yes.  Even an AA12.  No one has ever queried it. They're typically lower power than your average AEG anyway.

True. I have been on the incoming side of an AA-12, set to 6 shot and trigger spammed. It's a visually impressive experience, but less ouchier than a typical HPA wankergun that's "not" Joule-creeping to the moon.

I use a gas shotgun as my main gun for cqb and have never heard of any site with a blanket ban on them. Rift's Blackstone site do have a rule that they're left on 3 rather than 6 rounds though

Yes a pump action shotgun puts more rounds in the air with each trigger pull but making that follow up shot if you miss or there's another target can't be done as quickly. Imo wanker guns like hpa hi cappas with hair triggers are m4 mags are far more of an issue as they're more easily abused.

Best to double check with the site but I can't see them having a problem with it

I never been to a CQB site that doesn't allow shotguns, i have run an AA-12, Kel Tec, M870 (gas and springer). My local CQB site has a no more than three BBs in the air at one time (so they ban APS CAM870s) but i am looking forward to my next visit so i can run my new Saiga 12-k.

Played a few single shot gun games, shotguns/snipers/pistols, & they were some of the best games I've ever played, made a real change from the usual hosefest.

It's cool of you to pose the question. You don't see many HPA players saying "I can fire in semi at 1000rpm, is it uncool of me to use .4s in CQB and spam the trigger?". Like others, I haven't been to a site that bans multi-shot shotties. I think it's one area where the rule of cool actually wins out over nitpicking. That is, many semi-only sites are CQB sites and adopt it for safety. Many shotguns are lower power/accuracy than AEGs and can only really be competitive in CQB. My local site does prohibit binary triggers but again, that's mainly in response to HPA uesrs overshooting.

P.S. Sorry to be so down on HPA users, but it is my lived experience that on aggregate, they are the least sporting airsoft players I ever encounter.
