I need to lay up some mags for a while and purchased a can of this. You would think the company that made it would give clear instructions on its use but the only thing I have been able to glean is that it shouldn't be used for skirmishing.  Does that mean you should never expel it through the barrel?

I thought phoning Abbey might might help but the answers I got were rather vague. Of course I may have been speaking to somebody who didn't work on the technical side.

I  asked if the mag should be filled with the maintenance gas or if a two or three second burst was enough but didn't really get a definitive answer..

I said I'd heard it was not advisable to use the button valve on the back of the mag to expel gas because the cool down effect could damage the o rings. This was agreed.

I mentioned that shooting the gas through the gun would risk drenching the hop rubber with lubricant. Also agreed.

In the end I had to make the suggestion that expelling the gas might best be done by hitting the valve quickly and  lightly many times until the mag was emptied without the cool down effect. Sounded like it might be the way to go.

But nothing definite.

So I thought I would ask here again. I assume there are members who use this stuff. I know it's a low pressure gas. Is it in fact just 144a with extra lubricant? .

Do you fill the mag with it or give it a short burst? How do you get rid of it? Do any of you shoot it through the gun, or repeatedly hit the valve button to expel it?

I am tempted to just fire it through the gun. 

 
Just fire it, itll likely be fine. Ive been using it that way for years. Its basically 134a gas with more lube, but its Abbeys own lubricant rather than the generic silicone oil you get in Nurpol gasses which tbh are probably far more likely to soak your hop rubber with lube, and nobody worries about that. Have you ever watched someone shooting using nuprol gas? Its like bukkake porn the amount of lube flying out the barrel.

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that the lube Abbey use remains in the gas wheras the silicone oil in Nuprol et. al. pools back as a liquid at the bottom of the mags leading to leaks from the top seals in prolonged storage. Whether thats true or not, or just abbey marketing spiel I dont know, Im not a gas physics expert :P  

Generally if Im going to put my mags away for a prolonged time, Ill fil lthem mostly with green/propane, and add a brief squirt of abbey maintainance gas to top it off. Then night before skirmish whilst packing Ill fire a mag of BBs to empty it out and refill with green/propane. No harm done in 10 years of that yet.
