PMR doesn't need a licence, but you're also only supposed to use a radio with .5W output and a fixed antenna so technically you shouldn't use those frequencies with a UV5R. For the other frequencies yes, you do need a licence. The business light licence is the easiest to get (mine was £75 for a 5 year validity) as it doesn't require exams be passed. That said, many sites have their own licence that will cover you for use on their site (as long as you stick to their approved frequencies) added to which, as long as you're not using Emergency Services frequencies then the chances of actually getting caught and prosecuted are incredibly slim. Not that I'm encouraging ANYONE to break the law. In terms of setting up, get a programming cable and download a copy of CHiRP. That has a preset group of frequencies you can download to your radio that lines up with the Business light licenced frequencies.

Selling my TMC AVS in multicam black, it runs good with foam plates. Hasn’t got any noticeable damage, just slight dirt marks. It comes with everything seen including a brand new UV5R radio with a whip antenna and PTT. I will include the charger and original antenna as well. I will also include a TMC gen 1 banger panel which zips onto the avs rear panel. great for hauling smoke/flash bangs. Additionally I am selling a fast helmet in Medium/Large which includes earmor m32 headsets which plug directly into the PTT to allow communication. It will also include the exfog anti fog system as well. Plenty of padding inside and will include a bag of additional padding. The contour cam works but not in the best of shape so that’s free. Happy with collection but postage is on buyers dime.£100

Didn't really pay attention to this as my old radios worked fine. Having bought 2 new Uv5Rs, i didnt read the description, even though it was in bright yellow (forgot my range anyway) so went ahead Click here to view an Ebay posting of an example seems they are locked out above 440MHz to transmit even if you do have the license, all my frequencies being over 440 it seems, you can factory reset them which on the 2 new ones has fixed the issue thanks to youtube but one of my old ones doesn't want to play ball. So when you use chirp to upload the data, the PTT button will only beep and wont allow transmit after anyone else had this issue recently? (assuming we are all doing this legally here!)

Treated myself to a new radio Booofwaaang Ar-152, some gel cups for my headset and to coordinate, a fresh headband too The radio is bloody MAHOOSIVE!! 😂 (Uv5r for scale) -
You can't use a UV5R on PMR 446 frequencies legally because the UV5R puts out 5w which is over the mikitnfor someone without a licence Get UV-5R's and a business license from OFCOM and use the designated frequencies they assign the licence to cover your arse, it's like £75 for 5 years and you can have unlimited people under it

Hello chaps, I think I just avoided making a mistake as the G9 pro can still be sent back, but it seems it is not compatible with the Earmor m32's. It seems that the headset is low impedance while the Midland G9 is high impedance. Shame as the G9 pro is otherwise excellent. But my question - and I did a bit of searching on the internet and here first and found this thread: I have also just emailed the UK branch of Earmor too see what they say, but can anyone please confirm if the Earmor's will just work fine with a good old Baofeng UV5R (as long as I have the Earmor Kenwood PTT)? Or is there hope/a workaround with the Midland G9 Pro? I read on a Reddit thread that if you change the mic to a non dynamic one then it works... Thanks very much in advance.

This Thread might be handy for you: Many good options, cheap (but good) baofengs can be had for under £15 - on the likes of aliexpress - e.g. the venerable UV5R, or the newer UV13 pro - just make sure that you take the time to programme them to frequencies that aren't going to annoy people (i.e. PMR446).

This week, I picked up the following for £100: LCT AK74 5 AK magazines Padded gun bag Baofeng UV5R radio SRVV belt rig -
Unsure of 1, but re/ 2 friends and I all use the baofeng UV5R and the ear piece it comes with. No programming required just pick a channel and go. Also has a handy lock key so when youre sliding around you don't end up on someone elses channel. For MTP outfits, literally any car boot will have loads going cheap, same for virtually any milsurp store. Just had a quick look at G&G CM16's which is what we all got as our starting rifles and holy fuck theyve increased in price.

Radios... What do you recommend?
Emergencychimps replied to SteamPunkSultan's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
For radios themselves lots of people will recommend baofengs uv5r which can be good and can be good for starter or Airsoft radios. However, to use them you should have a license and when people get the licenses they tend to go for the small business licence (£75 for 5 years) and covers a group of people. Some sites (gunman Airsoft for example) and allow customers to use their licence/channels. Lots of people don't bother to get a license and I have never heard of anyone being caught, but that's the law bit covered. You shouldn't use them on pmr channels (too powerful) but you'll have channels you can use them on They take the standard Motorola or kenwood (can't remember)fittings, so you could get a standard speaker mic for them and a covert ear piece. Or you could go to someone like JCI Comms and get a military style ptt which would mean you can plug them into your military style headset. Going this way is expensive, but good Comms are expensive. There are issues mixing and matching repro comm stuff with real stuff, JCI can recommend. You could also go for standard pmr radios from Argos, but most won't be powerful enough for some sites (especially with buildings). And headsets etc will be more limited. Next up you could go for Motorola, kenwood or yaesu. They're the next level and most will need licenses. Similar issues as with baofengs on the accessories department but the QC on the handsets it better. Baofengs have a habit of failing when they are exposed to damp, I used then for weekend events and after binning off my 4th or 5th one I got a Kenwood and have used it since, £25 per baofeng or £175 for a Kenwood. I was using it for a lot of weekend events, in the rain, cold, snow, hot etc. If you really want to pay out but have what should be amazing comms, you could get a TCA or Tri 148/152, basically repros of real radios, £250+ for the radio + only works with legit ptts and headsets. JCI Comms (Facebook and instagram) will be your friend here. From what I've seen they're amazing when they work but often have issues or niggles. For you, my recommendation would be a baofeng uv5r, a baofeng speaker mic and a covert ear piece from eBay, roughly £45 all in, plus your license if you need one (depending on your site). It works for most airsofters needs 95% of the time. If you really enjoy them etc, then upgrading when you're more knowledgeable is sensible. I don't know about blue tooth for the foregrip based ptts, sounds good but risky Vs hardwired -
