No, but you might wanna leave something in forum feedback as that's just a few lines of CSS to change if Devastator agrees with you. Personally I'm with you - anything but very dark grey is silly for any website.

(Any website that's trying to be functional for repeat visitors, that is). Forums should be super functional.

I can dream about clientside configuration of these things.

If thats what you dream about you need to get out more.

Some skins do have that sort of thing, but I'm not sure if they're still knocking about. You can use certain plugins to do that kind of thing for you too.

(And even if they are about, the new IPB version has broken most of them)

Well I would if it weren't for the Imgur compression really messing up the text and colours.

I should also say the second picture is just straight black.

I think this grey background in the statuses is better than the white in the main forum posts but I don't know how that would look as affecting the whole site appearance.
