There's a ridiculous amount of as blockers on the chrome add-on section. Ones for YouTube, Google etc. You can also change pop up settings.

I use Ad guard as I find it easier to white list people I want to support with ads.

I've tried fiddling with pop up settings and it doesn't seem to work, i'll look into those add ons though
