SHS Pistons are the best bang for buck IMO. Lonex/ASG ones are good too However, your main problem seems to be premature engagement. Gonna try keep this short- Motor is fast as well as high torque so it's making your gears spin faster than your piston returning to rest. You can stop this by installing a heavier spring and short stroking the piston, lightening the piston and correcting AOE. Another option is to go for a more powerful, slower motor like a ZCI High torque

If I install a lesser ratio gear set, will I still have issues with premature engagement? I was going for torque rather than speed in my set up so I'm happy to lose speed to make this work. In fact, only reason I swapped the gear set was because my original gear was lost during a take down!

Going back to an 18:1 gearset will get rid of premature engagement, yes. When going for high torque, what are you looking for exactly? Trigger response?

Basically, I upgraded the motor as the stock one was pants. I also upgraded the gear set simply due to the gear going missing. I wanted better trigger response ideally but it was more to help cycle the gun faster on semi as the motor struggled a bit.

Going by that, the parts you have atm are fairly suitable-Motor and gears you have are good for efficient cycling and good trigger response. You can go for a higher torque/slower motor if you don't want to short stroke. To be honest, with an 18:1 set you will have good cycling,so that's the option I'd reccomend if you are just looking for standard fare and reliable performance

Awesome. Tbf, I only use semi-auto; think I probably have used full auto for less than 500 rounds this year in total! I'll het hold of a 18:1 gear set and a new reinforced piston. Thanks for your help :)

SHS/Super Shooter do a 16:1 gearset which gives a little better trigger response than the stock 18:1 without the mental speed and problems of 13:1 / u can also speed it up by fitting a lighter spring & double 0-ring piston head (+20-30FPS)

Interesting...how does the lighter double o-ring head increase fps? Apols if I'm asking basic questions here....maths and numbres really aren't my strong point!

double O-ring is supposed to help better seal, the thin ring helps ensure piston flies back straighter or more true/stable. Good single O-ring is ok if seal is great

Keep the weight of the complete piston down as low as possible for hi-speed. IMHO forget bearing and use bearing spring guide to keep piston 20gms or less so piston returns as quick as poss to avoid pre-engagement
