G36 variants. While the AK is one of my all time favourites, I just can't get enough of HK control groups.....hence why my first gun was the MP5, I love the selectors, trigger and simple mag release on them

AK all the way. Absolute classic, timeless design, a chimp could pick one up and use it (search the video) and there are lots of variations on the 47/74/RPK base. Not really that many with the G36 variants. Also, majority of AK's go with any sort of loadout.

G36. Can get any look from mercenary to sci-fi with them. Not so much for terrorist or insurgent loadouts, however. Could make a killer future merc loadout with a G36 styled up a bit (Cough, G36SD, cough).

Given that the production of the G36 has recently been suspended owing to problems with it overheating under sustained fire, whereas the AK can be buried in the ground for 30 years, dug up, given a wipe with an oily rag and be good to go, and its family of variants has had well over 100 million produced and is still being made in several countries, that tells you all you need to know.
