I really don't understand why policies against airsoft guns exist- I understand no lethal weapons such as air guns and firearms, but you could do more damage with a normal kitchen knife (which I bet is allowed) than you could with an airsoft gun!

Exactly, but uni rules blanket ban all "firearms" (which they classify as anything capable of firing a projectile). That said, freaking PAINTBALL guns are allowed in accomodation *mainly because the uni has a paintball society*

Wait is this a law or just your uni's rules????

So many damn hoplophobes over here, that's why. Everyone's afraid of guns cos we've never had much of a gun culture. People don't realise knives and things can be just as dangerous really. Then when shootings occur we are generally bad to respond because our own police aren't even armed. Finally when we talk about less restrictive gun ownership people automatically assume it will be like the US where practically anyone in most states can buy them.

It's stupid how anti-gun our country is....it can be a good thing, but it also means people wishing to pursue a sport such as target shooting have a hard time. And if you've never been in a Cadet force or in the Military you'll never be able to fire a semi automatic with a calibre larger than .22......it's really sh*t

That .22 petition only has about 18k signatures. Needs 100,000 to be in another select committee / parliamentary debate or something. Surely there's got to be more people than that who'd sign it. Obviously isn't getting seen enough because there must be more support than that.

Problem is, a lot of .22 shooters I've met are quite elderly gentlemen who prefer less recoil- and most of them don't have/use computers, so an online petition wouldn't be seen by them

Agreed. Think that the highest calibre round that I've fired was a 7.62 from an AKM at a CCF camp. Fun as it was, I wish that the UK could just chill the F out about "gun culture"

So when you starting an airsoft club in your uni?

TacMaster

I've fired 7.62x51 from a cadet issue competition rifle before. Great fun, but had no magazine. Each round has to be hand loaded by your coach to stop your firing position being disrupted too much.

Go to your students union and start banging on about discrimination and persecution. Make a real big fuss and be a massive drama queen.

Seriously. It might be the best thing you ever do.

Go full SJW, but instead of banging on about the 'Patriarchy' use airsoft as your subject

DX115FALCON

So, you recommend I go full Zoe Quinn about this? Except with airsoft instead of girls in gaming?

Hey, it's worth a shot.....

Do it, most student unions have a lot of sway and everyone loves and excuse to stick it to the people in charge. At the very worst they'll tell you to sod off...

Aberdeen uni right? Just get a small number of ppl together and form a new sports club. Then ask the Athletics association to ask that airsoft guns , as legitimate sports equipment be allowable in student accommodation. At the same time, make a complaint about the invasion of your privacy in checking your facebook.

Once you are a legitimate sports club, The AA should back you up.

TacMaster

It's a privacy invasion anyway if they searched your room without your permission. You pay for it, it's technically your property- like renting a house

Basically, set up an airsoft society? Liking your thinking. I'll stop off at the union tomorrow and ask about it. I know that at least 15 guys are either interrested in playing, used to play, own their own guns or actively played before moving to uni JUST from my course, so I should have a good case for it. I'll update you tomorrow afternoon on what I hear back from the union
