Probs a gas mag. That could happen if the mag had a bad enough crack from a metallurgical error which broke when the mag expanded from gas being injected.

Yeah it was gas, but I don't know what it was or what he was doing.

My guess is a metallurgical error on the mag or some shiet. Or he was filling a Green Gas mag with the madbull co2 thing.
