Ok, it might be because the valve knockers have about 1.5 - 2mm play before they actually start pushing the valve stem! Added a couple of layers of superglue & baking powder to the end of one (#5) and removed 90% of that play and it is working better (although #4 is still -10 to -15fps below the others!)
