Springs and guesstimating power is a bit of a head fuck

Is why I tend to try & work with what I got

then drop a piston spacer & short stroke for example

A "regular" spring is one that coils are even spaced

& produces the same power whatever way they are fitted

An irregular/non-linear spring is one which has tighter coils in the middle say, and/or tighter coils at one end than the other

Normally the tighter coil end goes at back on the spring guide, but if fitted in reverse you can gain say 10~15fps I've found

Guarder's are always 10 over rated due to SP system

and SP90 equates roughly to M100 -ish

More extra power than expected

can be down to piston bearing/spacer

and bearing spring guide if used along with barrel length creep

Plus fit the spring the other way round and a further 10fps is thrown into the mix...

Odd that you chopped a bit off but gained power

though I suspect @ 1.05j the cutting made little difference

then maybe you fitted it the other way round ???

which is where you could have gained the extra 0.05j = 1.1j

Which you then had to hack the spring up further to arrive sub 1j

as you probably decided to keep the original end as is

and hack off more on the already trimmed end

This where those Quick Change gearboxes come into their own

You got the SA to mess about with

like I got the UAR, when you start messing around "testing" stuff

you notice just how qwirky this spring shit can be

I think the Guarder is tight in the middle but the ends are slightly different, one end seems to be bit more tightly wound than the other and THIS is where you can gain a little fps if fitted in reverse.

So part of me suspects you cut coil, one end looked a bit neater and "maybe" fitted it the other way around to get a little extra power perhaps ???

Or it could be one of them weird airsoft flukes

But I try avoid the guess-work of cutting springs if possible

and try to ensure the spring is refitted the same way

(unless i'm a tiny bit low fps, which I have flipped a few springs)

Most of my spring cutting has been just to lop off the "hook" from some of them cheapo China m115 springs and work with what I got.

I got a collection of new springs still in package sleeve, but can't be arsed or just a tight arse, so tend to work with what was in a hot gun or what I got lying around close by.

Sure the cheapo springs might fade & settle, so aim for max fps possible, but know the spring orientation can be crucial to avoiding weird curve-ball results.

But spring cutting has always seemed to me a bit more hit n miss guesswork on top of trying to aim for absolute max power without breaking the site's limit

Well done though
