Gas mags (purge or leave full)

Hey all.

I am new to GBBR and have only played a few games with my MP7.

I just had a quick question as there are differing opinions on this online.

I reloaded shortly before the end of the day. This included gassing the mags. I have 5 completely full mp7 mags sitting on my desk. Their seem to be 3 camps for this.

1. Leave them as is.
2. Let some gas out and leave it
3. Purge it all.

I know full purging can damage the internals and that leaving a bit of gas inside it best. It just feels odd to vent so much gas. (Abbey 144a)

Do you vent it of keep it?

I just leave mine with however much gas is in them at the end of the game , might be full , might be mostly empty. As long as there is some gas in there. Never had an issue leaving them full in the years I've been using GBB

Leave them gassed. If mine are empty I give them a squirt of Abbey maintenance gas before putting them away.

Best thing is to leave them as is. No point dumping gas as your wasting gas for one. It won't harm them, I keep all my mags gassed up as was. Just never store them long term ungassed as this causes issues with seals and will cause leaks.

Purging and filling with maintenance gas is a old way loads of people said was right to do but I've never done it personally as to me your just wasting gas and as you say manually dumping can cause issues with seals in seating and also releasing high amounts of flammable gas into air.

Same here. Partly because I'd always been told to leave some gas in to protect the seals and partly because I'm a lazy git and usually can't be arsed

I use propane or map gas depending on temperature, so I always purge my mags at the end of the day and give a little bit of maintenance gas for them afterwards, but with most green gas you can just leave the gas in the mags.

No need to purge if using propane, green gas is propane with added lubricant. Couple of drops of silicone oil on the rubbers will keep the seals fresh.

I never purge any mags of propane unless it's to do maintenance on a mag. I've had some sitting over a year since last using them and they aren't leaking.

To be honest, I only ever pop a drop of silicon oil on my valves maybe once a year. I’ve been running my ghk sg553 like this for 4 yrs now and the mags have never leaked.
I now do the same piracy with all of my mags
And I always remove any bbs from them at the end of the day
