Great morning yesterday at Driver Wood, and has the pleasure of meeting @Impulse - I heard a tall bloke talking about his Tanaka in the Chrono queue and put two and two together...
I finally managed to field the Stoner 96 LMG- over 8 months since buying it from new- it previously having endless...
I think you are talking about the moulding of the hop arm. I have had an issue before where there was a fault in the moulding of the hop arm resulting in the indent/cup that holds the nub in place being stepped half way across. This led to the symptoms that you indicate, and was nothing to do...
I've been in similarly frustrating games, where everyone is bogged down and getting fed up. I usually speak to a marshall about this in game pretty quickly - calmly and objectively pointing things out, and that people are getting a bit fed up. It's often (but not always) enough to galvanised...
I had a old tm mp5sd in the 90s. Definitely no hop up in that springer, but great memories of battles in the woods with my mates, and perforating the light shades at home! Welcome along!
There's a chap that plays driver wood in a electric wheel chair too. Echoing all the above. I might possibly add that selecting a site that has quite dense cover, or areas of it might be helpful. Open sites with sparse cover tend to favour a more speedy style of play.

Good luck, mines been a nightmare. So much promise though. From the off: add an extra two screws between the grip and gearbox, swap to a bullgear hop unit - and be prepared to play around with rubbers and inner barrel combos; and run the box mag off a rechargeable 9v lithium battery.
I have achieved some of more memorable game play with a pistol. I have been known to use a Kar98 or Lee Enfield with no MED, but - given the limitations of a bolt action when things get frantic, I carry a pistol too. Quite frequently the rifle will be left propped up against a tree and a lone...
