Hello, gave this sport a try since I needed some exercise and had a couple of friends into it and its safe to say I'm hooked. Been enjoying obsessing over what I'm going to buy and learning about how the internals work and can be upgraded. Already got my boots and clothing but obviously gotta wait to get registered before I can buy guns.

On my first day I rented a G36C and folded the stock after my first game because it kept bumping my mask and then kept it that way for the rest of the day so I think I'm going to go for an MP5 SD6 for my first gun. Having a silencer kinda makes sense considering the sound of the guns and I want a metal body but trying to decide between the brands is a pain. Welcome mate. I tried an ICS MP5 Sd about 2 weeks ago as my gun was not ready and it was the biggest pile of poo i have ever held. Everything was nasty an cheap about it, the selector was wobbling and was almost a new gun. It wont fail you, will shoot better and further then the ICS.

Thanks for the info. Its really hard to gauge whats the right brand since everyones had good and bad experiences with each and is protective of their own stuff. I wasn't considering the TM because it wasn't a metal receiver but maybe its a sacrifice worth making. I don't mind having a gun where the internals will need replacing and I can upgrade as I go. I mostly want a good body to start with. Just saw the TM can be upgraded to metal.

I'm renting an M4 this sunday and there's still plenty of time for me to change my mind.

 
The thing with TM's is you just leave them standard and they work great, the plastic they are made of is super strong an they are a great starter gun as there reliable. You wont hear anyone saying there TM broke but every other make your hear that from. Remember all other makes are clones of TM's. Saying all this i use a G&G lol but thats just coz i wanted recoil and could not afford the £600 ish for the TM one otherwise i would have. give it 6 months and i shall tell you if the G&G is worth it. ;-0

They don't do an MP5 SD in their combat machine (budget) range but their top tech ones are probably some of the best MP5's out there. Probably on a par with the TM for reliability but it will out shoot it anyday.


With MP5's bear in mind that the wheel on high caps is tiny. You will probably want to use mid cap magazines rather than have to wind the magazines.

 
Yeah thanks I was gonna get mid-caps as soon as possible.

I was looking at the G&G but was advised to avoid blowback at all costs and I can't find the version without it.

 
Na G&G blowback is fine mate. If your going to buy G&G though by the Top tech if you can afford it, lastest GEN with a mosfet.

Are you saying it has a mosfet built in? So should I stick a LiPo in it straight away? My friends all stick 11.1v's in theirs apparently without any upgrades but everything I've read advises against it and I know one of them has just had to put his in for repair.

I'm not expecting you guys to answer everything for me and I have been doing a lot of research but a lot of forums posts are up to 5 years old and I don't know what could have changed since then.

 
Some blowback guns use power from the gearbox. If it jams then the gearbox will get damaged. G&G use a pneumatic system so some of the air from the piston is used so if it jams it doesn't affect the operation of the gun. It's not true blowback as it doesn't give much recoill, it just opens and shuts the ejection port.

 
yes you can put a 7.4 lipo in no problem mate i do in mine. Make sure you get the mosfet one though. My G&G shoots amazing. im firing 0.28g bbs really nice and the hop would prob fire 0.30g if i wanted it to. The good thing about the G&G top tech is, you dont need to upgrade a thing everything is done. Just buy mags ect and your done, its worth spending that bit more in the long run.

I can't find mention of a gen3 g&g mp5 sd6 with mosfet anywhere on google, do they definitely exist?

 
I've got a TM mp5. Yea it's plastic but it doesn't look it and you won't notice it. Plus when you start getting more molle pouches, mags, BFGs and all the other crap hanging off you it's nice to cut down on the weight you're lugging around.

 
Ive got the G&G MP5SD6 Top Tech and run it with a 7.4V LiPo forward. Its a GEN2 so doesnt have MOSFET and I hear there are no plans for a GEN2 version.

The only comment I would make is that it doesnt have a rail as standard. It does come with a little rail attachment that can sit on the top and gives you about 2" of rail. I use mine just with the iron sights but Im sure you can get attachments to add more things like tactical lights etc for CQB.

Its not an automatic choice for a woodland gun if you are playing at Billericay but the range is good so there is no technical reason really.

I ended up with a UMP as well because it is easier to add things to and you can remove the silencer.

The MP5 is a great starter gun, my first AEG was a Cyma MP5A5 and it's never failed me despite being a Chinese clone. Since then I've bought a G&G top tech M4 and the quality is outstanding- if the TT M4 range is that good, then the MP5 range will be as good if not better.

With regards to the hi cap's wheel- it's not actually that difficult to wind at all, but when using MP5 hi-caps you're at a disadvantage- they only hold 200 ish BBs. Some M4 midcaps can hold more than that!

Some people might tell you it's difficult to go prone with such a dimensionally long mag- it isn't that difficult at all. I once spent 15 minutes holding an objective from prone while running my MP5, and I got about 12 kills because the other team didn't see me :D

Thanks guys, this has been really helpful. I know it's a pain when people are asking questions that have already been answered somewhere. I have been obsessing and researching this for the last 2 weeks but asking the questions directly has really helped me. I originally didn't consider the G&G because I had read so many times that blowback = bad but now I'm certain that it's the right gun for me.

I'm a bit confused. It has a 2 inch rail on top but its not a rail? I was thinking a cheap reflex sight would be good for me.
