Old School Airsofters.

And you had to build them yourself from a kit. I had an XM177 and a Sten Gun...

I was a moderator on one of the forums when that kicked off. Got called a Nazi Bumboy because we weren't letting the conspiracy theorists spout crap and kept deleting their posts.

That was around the same time as Dee Dee kicked off the One Joule furore.

Still waiting for my shell ejecting aa12 with self contained gas shells DeeDee. You promised me a couple of months until delivery back in #airsoft in 2005 :)

Christ on a bike ! He's back !!!??

Ah yes, good old "DeeDee"

Stubert - Bruce and I met DeeDee Sheldrake after Drew's first stag night weekend - I took a rifle from him in lieu of one of his bespoke pistols that never manifested.

Is that you Paddy?

I seem to recall a Pancor Jackhammer was also promised.

Your memory is better than mine, was definitely a jackhammer now I think about it.

Used to speak to him on the regular in #airsoft, he seemed a decent enough chap... Until he didn't.

Now, when can we get act dead and the cigar of choice klub going again?

I started airsoft about 20 years ago, I used to muck about with some friends with springer pistols and SMG in some waste ground near where we lived. All fun and games till armed response tipped up one day, they were really cool about it (wouldn't be today) the cops were muckin about plinkin at each other with "guns" The police gave us a stern talking to, and sent us on our way, thats when we started looking for a site to play on, we finally found Pheonix, went a few times, then changed to Free Fire Zone because it was closer.

after a while we formed a team of like minded Milsim types, and played for a few years at a couple of big games around the country (Copehill down, SWAT over in Wales) loved it, we finally drifted apart, I hadn't played for about 12 years, till I got dragged back into by my best mate (used to be on the team with us) happy times.

Love those. I haven't play for over 8 years since I moved to UK. But memories are priceless

Had this on numerous occasions back in Czech Republic. when Police played game with us before dispersing us.

I started about 10 or so years ago... not that long ago but anyone remember Forest Labs I think airsoft Essex used to do?

Late '90s/early '00s - staring at the DenTrinity website - they had built a P90 (which was uber cool in popular culture at the time) using TM internals in a model gun way before TM bought theirs to market.

I was hooked from there on in.
I still own this p90, the plastic has not aged well, was made from an old toytec version that Den had butchered, only issue was having to have a battery bag strapped to the side.

Whoa, that is cool.

I mean I know it wouldn't stack up against modern stuff (although it uses a V3 GB?), but when I saw that on DenTrinity what must be 20+ years ago, i thought it was the coolest thing ever.

I would never own a P90 now, but back then I would of had one in a heartbeat. Because I was young and liked watching Stargate.

Snap, loved a bit of Stargate back then and there was no marui version, has a ver 3 box with the motor mounted horizontaly under the cylinder. I'll dig it out and take some pics for perpertuity lol :)

Upgrades seemed to be a stronger spring, metal bushings and a higher voltage battery. Didn’t always last that long.

BB weights were .2 or .25 if you were feeling posh.

Metal bodies were well over £100 for a M4, the main main aftermarket parts producer was Systema.
Don't forget those Excel 0.23's the cool kids used to run!

#airsoft on IRC? Spent many nights on there with the "Insomniac army"

Sorry to drag up an old thread btw. I was giving "Academy XM177 vintage airsoft" a googs and this thread came up in the results. (Trying to get hold of another of my first ever AEG for the nostalgia)

I played my first proper game in September 2000. (Had springers and gas pistols for a few years before that)

I often look back at the old days with how simple the game was, less rules, less stress, less arguments. If I was given the option to time travel somewhere I'd definitely go visit some of my old haunts again with a modern AEG... :)

Same magaz from Ambush Strines, of the white gloves?

Magaz - you were at the opening day of Dragon Valley at Caerwent ?

No, that went years ago! ?

Where are you playing nowadays?

Level 2 has been my main squeeze these days. But I play all around the North West and a little further afield when I do actually get the chance to get out and play.

Became a regular at SWAT for many years after Ambush closed.

I'm about 20 years in now. Good fun in the old day. £300 for a TM M4, that had about a 5 piece barrel held together with grub screws, 2 piece hop unit and lugs that would break if you ever opened it up. To this day... Famas am best gun. Airsoft dynamics was an absolute shit show but had a good player gallery.

There seemed to be a lot more variety. When a new gun came out it was often a different weapon rather than a new varient. There was also some great kits if you wanted to put the work in. Anyone remember smokey's? That used to be the only way to get a 74 or something exotic like a Swedish K. UZI's were plentiful, midcaps didn't exist and AEG's were all the rage getting rid of those annoying guns that required external air tanks... Won't see the likes of those again... Sun project Xm177's... Old technology long forgotten... No sir never again... Thanks Marui man!

21yrs for me my 1st gun was a 4th or 5th hand TM M16 that the front end wobbled like a leaf in the wind no matter how tight you tried to get it ! ?

who used to buy their gun from RSOV/Gunner/WGC that used to arrive doing 400+fps all the time pre UKARA ? You’d get that letter from parcel farce saying your parcel from Hong Kong was at your local Depo and you had to go and pick it up from there and you possibly may have got caught and have to pay some charges(they’d usually say something like ‘toy parts with a value of $10 on this honking big box !?‍♂️) on it ! ?

???
