Tokyo Marui EVOLT AEG System

Looks like TM are introducing a new AEG format. Split gearbox, real-size pistol grips, new fire control PCB, mechanical selector, new magazines.

 

It's looking pretty nifty!

been expecting this for a while since they put the mosfet in the MP5. Interestingly the stock tube seems to be free so batteries can go in there and also frees up m4 models that don't have buffer tubes. The micro switch on the black and white wires looks like you will need to charge the weapon every time you change a mag, a bit like the MP5.

 

oh and a Japanese Type 2o GBB is on the way as well.

They've been around for a while I thought, just they was limited to the JSDF? Or are they now allowing the public to buy them too?

Rumour is that we'll be able to buy it sometime next year after the JSDF gets their training units first.

 

The EVOLT seems to have lockback on empty and yeah, needs the charging handle to load the first BB. Bit more LARP than the usual AEG, which is nice. I'm guessing the taller feed on the new mags is to make sure every BB gets shot,

Mariu's take on a GBLS DAS then?  Since becoming a cork-sniffing elitist GBBR user I've lost any interest in AEGs, but I must admit this does look interesting.  I'm not going to hope the blow-back is any better than the NGRS but I could go for a 'mechanically correct' AEG with Marui workmanship as a winter backup to gas guns or for days when I just want a quick run-around and can't be bothered with the faff.

I wouldn't call it a DAS equivalent, there's no proper/full size faux bolt carrier and the gearbox here isn't a million miles away from what exists now. Moving bit is more like the NGRS moving side plate, though it looks a fair bit more realistic in shape now.

 

Mag design is very cool for these and definitely enables a lot more realism in an electric platform in various ways. Should even feel like inserting a real mag with that last little bit of spring compression when you seat it (at least seems that way when he shows off how the mag is built).

 

Unless there's some wizardy in the battery I'm not sure how it'd be proprietary. I've changed my 3-wire MP5 over to 2 wires with deans and that works on my normal lipos.

Looks interesting, although the more I look at it the more it's just interesting, rather than actually "oooh", like the MP5 was when announced. Another M4! I understand the reasoning, but how about revamping the G3, or the sig, or... 

 

• Recoil and non recoil models and selling the uppers/lowers separately - Of course, totally different upper gearbox, so no clue how easy it would be to change springs, etc. Otherwise, potentially different power builds (DMR upper, CQB upper) - but does anybody actually do this, or just have 2 complete guns so at least you've got a spare. 
• Yet another type of proprietary mag (and battery) though, albeit to take pressure off feed nozzle and to add more safety. Also permanently keeps mag under tension in magwell for consistent placement. This kind of makes sense, but midcap syndrome didn't really show up as I recall till people started using 150rd midcaps and jamming them in there. These are only 81 round I think, so I'm not quite following.  
• Propriatery battery, and only 800mah at that. I get it if it's to make the stock tube/recoil thing work, and maybe they've got a magic motor that means the battery lasts for an age, but otherwise that's an investment in Marui only batteries. I hope that the option to use others is there, but it remains to be seen.  
• And as ever - spares. The more unique non-replaceable FCU's there are, the more potentially expensive bricks out there. 

 

I do actually want to have a good look at both and having the option of a recent build Marui non-recoil M4 with decent hop, etc. is promising, but not immediately throwing money at the screen. 

Speaking of - roughly £450 and £600 in Japan. Wonder what that'll translate to over here...
