Hi!

I’ve got a Milspec M4 buffer tube that has likely got too much paint on the thread.

I'm looking for a 1-3/16-16UN thread die to clean the thread.

Does anyone happen to have one I could borrow, or know of a tech who has the die?

a new one from a reputable shop would cost me nearly £100… And I’m not sure about buying one from China, as if it’s wrong, it will f*ck up a stock tube and stock that’s discontinued and irreplaceable.

I’ve confirmed the thread is definitely 1-3/16-16 as I’ve run a Milspec barrel nut over it. Both tubes measure at 1.185inch. So all things considering, they’re the same… However the thread on the new

stock tube is ever so slightly too tight to get onto the receiver.

I have used a few milspec buffer tubes. And yes they can be tight. I would say the peaks of the threads are ever so slightly taller than the receiver’s thread. All I do is get something like 1000 grit abrasive paper, wrap it around the thread and twist the buffer tube a few times and try for fit. Repeat until it feels right. Works for me!

If you want to knock bak a coating a wire brush head for a dremel or drill should work. I'd lock the tool then turn the piece through the brush head. It should be enough to clean off the threads and not damage the shape, unless it's the cheapest of Chinese chessium.
