Oh, sure, but the thing is that nylon is cheap and really hard to mess up.

Aaargh, £1.90 for the gears, £11.40 shipping: https://www.monkeemods.com/wbb/nylon-gear-set.html

Find something cheaper and I'll try it. :D

again i feel the need to stress the point about airsoft companies and their ability to screw up these sorts of things.

granted in the rc world you tend to see nylon (often reinforced pa6 type stuff) used for gearing although normally that's sacrificial.

Welcome back. Did you have a game booked at Depot before things went sideways? I did and they offered a refund but I took a voucher instead and they are giving people a few days VIP booking with the vouchers before the rif raff public can book so I should be able to attend the first game back.

Good to be back, thanks. I'm trying to focus on the teching at the moment to fill the gap but I really am having airsoft dreams now.

Yes, I was booked for the cancelled day and took the voucher (well, didn't ask for a refund) and am pretty much F5-ing their site, my email and Facebook at the moment to see who's going to re-open first.

I wouldn't put money on getting the first day back either if they're running reduced numbers. :(

I took the refund, due to my shifts meaning I'd likely be unable to make the first game days back.

My trigger finger is very itchy. I'm seriously having airsoft withdrawals. I only got to play 1 game this year, back in January. I specifically arranged my annual leave this year to maximize my chances of playing, but those dates have all gone to waste.

I've been watching a lot of airsoft gameplay on YouTube and researching new guns, but crucially have avoided spending any money on airsoft at all, other than stocking up on gas.

So far I've nearly bought an MWS and MP7 GBB. Got a real hankering for another GBBR for CQB

Also looking at an Evo BET for an outdoor setup for possibly returning to my old woodland site, where I've not been in 4 years. Only played woodland once in that time, about a year ago. I much prefer CQB, but getting back to woodland would give me a better chance of getting to play more often.

Sadly whilst looking through photos from my old site, to see who was still playing there these days, I discovered that an old airsoft friend had died last year. He was only a year or 2 older than me and I know nothing of the circumstances. I was really shocked and still saddened by that.

Oh and don't forget the shit trigger on your G17 too, lol.

Really sorry to hear that, I know you have a tough time getting leave to sync up with game days at the best of times.

I see one Scottish site intends to re-open on Sunday, which seems... well, regardless of what measures they've put in place, I can't see how people can attend when the law is still 5 households maximum, not the "15 people" that has been bandied around.  Good luck to them, and I hope there are no repercussions, but I won't be rolling the dice on that one just yet.

Mosfets, resistors, buck regulators and diodes in my case.  Every mosfet package that I solder together gets just a little more compact, and I'm going to try active braking this weekend.  Hop-up tracer units all round, chaps.

Gas does make a good argument for itself in CQB, I'm still keeping an eye out for tri-shot breacher knock offs coming back in stock.

Mmm, I see Hammer II Operations is intending to restart at the end of August out somewhere near Kilmarnock. I do want to support the new site, but for the 2nd time running it's starting up on the cusp of Autumn on the West Coast.  [Digs out waterproofs].

It does rock you back on the heels a bit. I like to take as as reminder that we're not on a rehearsal.

Well, I had forgotten it, and wouldn't even have known about it if some elitist hadn't taken great delight in pointing it out. :P

Hope to see you in the Depot sometime this year, although it's going to be a mad every-banger-for-themselves scrabble when they re-open, and no mistake.

Good to see you about,

The issue I find with GBB is magazine capacity and not because of general play but when you come against a Neo there's only 2 ways to take them out. Make them feel the pain or get close enough to grenade.  The amount of mag dumps I've done with my hi-capa on people.

There is a 2020 evo version with updated electrionics and you can get it in grey or FDE as well. I've been tempted to get a carbine version myself instead of an M4.

I bought a PTS Masada AEG whicha bunch of accessories thrown in (AK lower, polymer, tri rail hand guard and mags).

Now I'm self learning enough about electronics to build my own gate titan-esque mosfet for the weird gearbox they have (weird fusion of a v2 and v3 with some proprietary shit thrown in). The main thing though is I'm going to add a stop on empty feature by detecting when there is no bb inline with the nozzle.

Also upgraded my polarstar build with a Lambda one 6.05 steel barrel and maple leaf 50 degree macron hop rubber. New FCU unit because the old one was fubar'd

Bought Razor UH-1 optic and 3x magnifer clones (They are real nice!)

In the process of trading my KWA Vector for an AAF recoil AEG.

Bought a Strike industries gridlok clone hand guard, a cool looking muzzle break/comp (VG6 Epilson with a heat gradation colouring), surefire warden clone suppressor and K2 style grips for the ergonomics,

Speaking of ergonomics, I'm designing my own version of the unity tactical FTC magnifier flip mount (also to go with it, designing a 2.33in riser but with a scalar works design style )

At somepoint I'll sell my TM recoil but that'll be after I get my hands on the AAF gun.

You know, now that that I've written that all out; I think I might be somewhat serious about this hobby.....

Did a once-over on all my guns. Silicone grease, maintenance gas, checking seals etc.

Planned the eventual locker setup in the garage.

Bought Weaver-to-Weaver adapters for my M37 to make it into a Masterkey.

Got bored and decided to see what the Masterkey would look like on the SGR12.

Looking at buying a KPS if I can get the 1911 gone.

Thinking of making another build, maybe turning a 1928 Thompson into a Skitarii Arc Rifle.

Nothing really interesting here.

Wow, that's ambitious.  I'm still at the stage of putting in P-channel mosfets to get active braking.  However, I've now managed to let the magic smoke out of most of my efforts - either I'm getting transient gearbox lockups, or I'm just cramming the components too close and over-cooking them during soldering.

Trade up to a CYMA AK. ;)

I detect no heresy here.

I'm planning to re-do my G36/lasgun build with a red LED in the fake barrel and the sound unit from a toy Star Trek phaser both hooked up to the motor, which is getting pretty heretical.

Well it helps having friends who do electrical engineering and stuff for far more complex stuff. I'm currently in the learn the genera basics about circuits because I've never had to think about them since I did my GSCE's. I think most things are a function of how willing you are to learn and how readily the information you need to achieve you goal is available. All the info needed to make a gate titan like mosfet is out there, its just a matter of finding it and I have friends who could do this as a hobby project I can talk too. As for willingness to learn, I love doing stuff like this. In another life I'd have gone into some sort of engineering discipline. Alas in this life I chose to be clinically insane and do a PhD in a biology based science. All I've got to say on that is, fuck biology. It bollocks and never does what you want it too. 🤬🤬🤬

I've got some experience in electrical design - made fog proof goggles that use a transparent conductor applied to a thin film to heat the lens.  A humidty and temperature sensor for inside the googles and a temperature sensor for the lens hooked up to an arduino nano. A simple program works out the dew point based on the humidity in the goggles + the temperature and modulated voltage supply to the film to heat the lens above the dew point. No noise, no moving parts, no reliance on continuous and sufficient airflow. Never fog, no matter what the weather is doing.

Now, that's the way to do it.  Snowmobile helmet visors have had heaters for years, its time has come.

got any pics of the setup?

because that sounds like exactly the sort of thing i need in my life.....

I'll get pictures just as soon as I've got my final prototype assembled (made a few test rigs but they were just to prove the concept, think flat sheet of polycarb inside a box one the back open to mimic goggles) I'm just waiting to get my hands on a soldering iron to put the final goggles together in a non kludge and ghetto way. Should have them setup and working as an end product soon. I want them done by the time winter rolls round this year so I can unleash hell upon the fog blinded masses at my local games 😈

My plan is to find someone who could make them on request for people and split the profits.

That effectively what I've done, I've got copper tape running round the edges of the film to ensure good electrical transfer across the film, film is then pressed tight to the lens and taped around the edges to keep it in place and in contact with the lens.

I just bought a sheet of ITO coated PET film and cut it to shape to fit tight on the back of my revision goggle lens.

Really, my Google-fu is failing me, I can only find big rolls.  I'm all over this if I can find some film.

Did you consider running the ITO/PET as a separated pane rather than attached to the polycarb?  That's how I do my PETG dual panes, with a strip of double sided foam tape between the polycarb and the inner.  Mind you, if it's heated it doesn't really matter, and you might get fewer visual artifacts.

thats what puts me off the pyramex's, it's like you're trading inconsistent clear/bad fog for consistent "just enough to annoy" fog.

That's what I searched for on Ebay.

the PET film is quite thin so I wouldn't work as a stand alone pane, in theory you could get a second len, get it ITO coated on the outer face and then put that behind the lens that'll take the bb hits.

Awwww yeah.  Thanks, I looked right through that.  How does the resistance work on those?  Sellers seem to be quoting "per sheet".  I'm guessing it's just a case of going with what you can get and dialling the voltage in until you get the heat you want from it?

I've got the maths somewhere for all this. Let me just dig it out later today and I'll post it all up for you. Perhaps I should make  dedicated thread for all this?

dedicated thread might be worth doing, especially if you're planning on doing commission builds in the future
