I'm currently waiting on delivery of my first AK; a Cyma CM042. Not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure, but I've wanted a bog standard, no frills wood and metal AK for a while and this seemed a decent place to start.

I want to get a few spare mags, naturally, and again, would prefer to have traditional, metal AK mags. I'm not a fan of hi-caps though, so can anyone recommend any compatible metal mid-caps, and any stockists? I'm drawing a blank. Thanks

My AKM/47 midcaps are all G&P, and I can confirm they worked well in my old CM028S

PB also have these, though I cant speak to their compatibility with CYMA - I imagine they would work.

@Zarrin thanks for that. I'd seen the ones on PB but wasn't sure about compatibility. I'll check them out.

@BigStew  I'll check to see if the AK74 mags are interchangeable with AK47s. Shouldn't see an issue. Thank you

Yes, they'll fit fine. Don't though, get AK47 mags, please...pretty please?

i know cyma's mags work just fine in an e&l, so i'd assume the reverse would probably be true, although that's just asking the airsoft gods to prove you wrong.

74 and 47 mags are technically interchangable, and i say technically. the mag will fit and feed fine but the ghost of mikhail will awaken and seek bloody vengeance if you do.

therefore @BigStew's option is the safest, although i'd also point out cyma's orange bakelite style mags are very good magazines, bit lightweight but tougher than they feel and just straight up work.

Please no...  don't do that, please be considerate to the fellow AK purists at your local field. It's just not fair... the world has enough hate and sadness as it is

Right, the orange Bakelite mags are a non-runner with me. The 74 mags from Fubar at £10 a pop are worth a punt. I am tempted to get the E&L mags on PB as well, just to see.

Thanks for your help. Hopefully the gun itself will be arriving tomorrow

I use a mix of e&l and cyma mags. E&l mags are nicer but they both work fine.

That's good to hear. Think I'll give the E&L mags a go. Cheers

How did the E&L mags run in the Cyma? I am looking at some for my CM045 but PB said they wouldn't work!!!

Stick a Cyma in a Cyma, no point in taking chances with compatibility when the best option is also the cheapest. The model you want is a Cyma C.71. Seems to be sold out everywhere right now but you can still import,

Even if you get tagged by customs it'll probably still be cheaper anyway.

Yeah, the E&L mags don't feed without pushing them up into the gun. The catch on the magazine is thinner than the Cyma mag.

May just bite the bullet and get polymer
