DMR suggestions and ideas please

Morning folks, well as the title says I'm really looking for ideas on a DMR as I'm so lost in what to go for.

As a player I have always been drawn to compact, hence having a Krytac Trident MKII PDW and whilst that's hitting targets out at 65 meters I need something with a little more range.

The thing is I don't think and please correct me if I'm wrong I can get a Bullpup , which would be my ideal choice as well just buying a good solid AEG is a minefield as nothing fits any of them so its trial and error just to keep one running let alone converting it to be a DMR so that doesn't really leave a lot left on the table.

So I thought I would put a shout out and get some ideas and see what can be done on what platforms, with that said and if you bored and fancy showing off your hardware instead of working today feel free to show off what you got.

Why couldn't you get a bullpup? The ASP SVU would make an ideal DMR. Most rifles will need converting though as there are very few out of the box DMRs.

The Ares Soc SLR is also available.

Get a gun you like.

Buy a mechanical HPA engine (no batteries to worry about, you're locked to semi and can tune the energy output)

Get a nice quality barrel and hop rubber

I would second this, my dmr is hpa semi only and I can run around at 350fps at sites that don’t allow dmr and with a twist of the regulator it’s a dmr. No stress on gearboxes plus it’s super quiet

I know we have spoken before in the past about the good the bad and the darn right awful in Bullpups and it was more a I didnt think I could really find a good build that was good as standard let alone that I could upgrade.

An did you ever get your type 97, it was on the way last time we spoke and Ares Soc SLR is something I was thinking of getting, but its still so new out its like can you do much with it and I wouldn't mind ago before I bought one.

As for the HPA root Skaraosteoshot I find that I'm not missing it tbh after playing paintball for a few years and I like it that I can just charge a battery and sling some plastic about whenever and dont have to worry about running out of air

A mate has an AUG as a DMR, it's the 'sniper ' version with a fluted barrel etc. Very easy to set to semi only and the damn thing is annoyingly good !

Yes I got both my T97's, took months but they are here!

The Ares SOC-AR is pretty much fully upgradable, though spare parts for the trigger control unit and gearbox shell might be a hassle. You can replace the barrel, hop unit, all of the internal part of the gearbox. It IS heavy. Accuracy is pretty crap out of the box, but I am working on that as we speak!

I don't think you will get much more information on the SLR, its not a popular gun and made in limited numbers. I reckon it would be pretty good with a barrel and hop upgrade though.

As for other bullpups. If you want something that would need to be a real world DMR (Or something plausible at least). I would go with either the SOC SLR or the SVU. The SVU is a little limited because of the 4th gear, but you can upgrade everything with Real Sword SVD parts. Combat Union make a tip top Hop unit replacement as well. My SVU has been fully upgraded and its pretty snazzy to use!

If you are less worried about real world bullpup DMRs then you can take a look at any of the long style AUGS on Gunfire, they are easy to work on, fairly good parts availability and would work well as a DMR. OR look at the APS UAR, which is essentially like the SOC-AR, an M4 inside.

If you want something futuristic looking that has great parts compatibility but not necessarily a bullpup. Look at the JG SL8/SL9. Essentially its all G36 inside so can take any number of parts.

Thats the problem I don't like the look of the UAR and if I was going AUG it would be the short I would want.

The SOC was one I was interested in, but as its nearly as heavy as the Krytac LMG that I sold after 1 day of using it due to the weight I don't think I'm going to be able to find one I think that's looking a bit of airsoft porn and that I can upgrade as I go along.

I'm glad you managed to get your 97s sorted though, as I remember you saying you wasn't sure it was going to turn up at one point

What about more of a custom job? I'm working on a SCAR H DMR project and internally it's a good base for a DMR. externally it has a lot of potential to be customised out bullpupped

That sounds good, but I'm not the sort who does things if Rifs as the last one I took apart it didn't end well 😂

Trouble is if you want a good DMR it's going to have to come apart. I could probably design a 3D printed bullpup kit for a SCAR H AEG but it'd take a while and I've not got a whole lot of time at the moment

Then HPA is the way to go.

This is why I'm looking at other options, as their are a lot of awesome Rifs out there that need new homes.....its just some people aren't the best at understanding unless you are willing to post something the buyer isn't likely to drive hundreds of miles to pick it up 😂

This is very true. Funnily enough I am starting to fall out of love with the SCAR so I may just finish the project and flip it if you're interested

Ignore the heathens.. HPA is evil. Buy an MWS, add a longer barrel and a nice bucking then convert it to semi. Job done.

I’d rather drag my balls across a mile of broken glass than HPA tap my rifle.

You don’t have any choice, really. There’s nothing out there performs like people expect a DMR to out of the box. If you want a DMR, you have to do the tuning that the factory didn’t have the time or money to do for you. Even if you buy used you’ll have to learn how to do preventative maintenance and repairs - if you want to get the last 10% of performance, you’ll have to be prepared to put in about another 50% of the work.

The cheapest, lowest-maintenance and simplest way to do this is to get a mechanical remote-line gas drop-in conversion, like a Mancraft PDiK. That means no messing around with AEG gearboxes, which will be the worst bit of this whole process.

If you don’t want to do that, the only thing we can really recommend is good guns to build into a DMR. High-volume guns that might be suitable include Real Sword’s SVD, and its vastly less expensive CYMA clone and ASP bullpup equivalent. Whatever it is you pick, you want good parts support and you want it to be easy to work on.
