Noobs looking to start in North wales...

Just turn up as a pair and chat to people.

Generally teams are not applied for and are not common to see on your average skirmish day. If you become a regular at a certain site you might eventually be asked to join a team if one exists.

I have been playing for over 2 years and have never felt the need to formally join a team. I have been asked maybe twice in that time.

Welcome to the forum and sorry I missed this last night.

I'm in North Wales, there are quite a few sites around here and I've played at several of them myself.  Just turn up at any of them and you'll be made very welcome.  We might even forgive the paintballing! 😂

If you can give me an idea of where you are then I might be able to recommend a site local to you.

Strangely enough, I've not played Alpha 55 and it's only down the road!  You might find Shock & Awe is quite a bit closer and I know for a fact that they're a great bunch with excellent facilities - including ice cream!!

Hey, I have a garage, and two bikes that need rebuilding - you're welcome to call in?? 🤣

(love to know what you consider "old codger" territory? 😁)

Hey, after running around a woodland for a few hours you need to replace some of the calories you've burned off?! 🍦

Firstly (before anyone jumps in) it's not a licence, basically it's a registration that says that you have a valid defence for owning a realistic imitation firearm, see the various threads in the UK Law section if you want to understand how it all works.

To be able to register with UKARA and get a number that retailers accept then you have to play at least 3 games at a registered site (most are) over at least 2 months - the third game has to be at least 56 days after the first.

The next game there is on the 15th as they're playing at another site before then.  You can check their FB page for more info.

Between the wife and I we've got 2 CBR600s and a 929 Fireblade.  Having used a friends CBF1000 I'm now seriously considering getting one for touring.  I take it you've got one or two yourself?

Haha no nudes though!?!?

😉

i havent got any planning on buiding a trike as i cant be assed doing full licence... been around custom cars and bikes all my life though....

so im probably better off using the hire stuff before I buy a gun then?

the start of a beautiful friendship lol 😂

Definitely no nudes - not at my age and with my physique! 🤣

Personally I'll get a trike when I can no longer get my leg over a normal bike!  And do you mean custom cars as in "paint it in glue and drive it through Halfords" or more like Edelbrock headers, superchargers, big turbos and nitrous. i.e. Outlaw Anglias?

Definitely a good idea to hire first, that'll give you time to take a look at the guns out there and see what takes your fancy.

The best thing is to chat to other players on site, most of us are more than happy to talk about our guns and quite often will let you try them too, although you should bear in mind that a few shots on a range can be a lot different to actively using a weapon in game.  An example being that I've tried a HPA'd Tippman M4 and it was huge fun to fire, then got chance to try it in game (after the gearbox on my G36 decided to sh*t itself mid game) and lugging the air bottle around put me off HPA.

Proper custom cars big block Chevys etc... muscle deffo... there’s no substitute for cubic inches!!

Id kill myself on a 2 wheeler deffo... want to build a low but long trike but with a black bird or hyabusa engine so I can tear up when I need to...

my lads add slightly autistic but loves his shit like modern warfare etc so just want to get him and me out for a bit of man time...

deffo be up for coming it’d be a good crack I reckon...

Awesome, proper custom cars then!  I used to own a Mustang (first generation after the fox body) and my neighbour across the road has a Trans Am, a Camaro, and something else that's in bits in his garage.  There was a small show at Gwrch Castle last weekend run by Corvettes by the Coast, lot of very nice machinery there an not just 'Vettes either.

That looks like an awesome T-bucket, what's under the hood??

Unfortunately I'm not going to be attending any games this month myself, I've got a bike rally in a couple of weeks so I'm trying to save my cash for that.  But I agree with your idea of a big engined trike, I've seen 'Busas and a ZZR1400 but not a Blackbird one, although it's not as if the engine wouldn't have the power for it!

Oh yes definitely proper custom cars that red 32 roadster does a quarter mile faster than a Bugatti... rapid...

How often do they play at shock n awe?

Did pop in today but they weren’t open...

What sort of stuff would you recommend for face protection?

I’m deffo gona hire first so I can get my number...

I would wear my paintball mask but I’d rather not get ripped for it, I’m a wife enough target as it is lol...

I'd love to have something like a Mustang (or an Impala, or a Nova, or.... you get the picture) in the garage again but it's full of bikes!

Shock & Awe usually have games on most Sundays but sometimes do evening games during the week too, their FB page is definitely the place to go for updates.  Any questions then just message Kris and he'll help you out, times, pricing and all that.

There are loads of threads on here about face pro, lots of alternatives too.  A lot go with some sort of glasses/goggles and OneTigris lower protection.  You could post a picture of your paintball and we can take the piss advise if we think it would be okay?

Personally I use ESS ICE but that's because they're one of the few you can get prescription inserts for (poor distance vision due to age and glaucoma).  I don't use any other face pro at the moment but thinking about investing in OneTigris myself, they do versions with and without ear protection in a variety of colours for around £17-£22.

My ultimate dream would be (following a large lottery win of course) to commission someone like Dave Kindig to build me a one off with the simple instruction "imagine the devil walked in and asked you to build him a car"! 😈

If it helps these are the glasses, these are the inserts and Specsavers charge £39 to sort out standard lenses for them.  There are alternatives such as Bolle Raider too but I've seen a lot of people recommend the ESS instead as they're less prone to fogging.  Mine have only fogged up on really hot days but that might be partly due to me not wearing face pro so they get plenty of airflow around them.

I'll have to try and get over to S&A again in November, really enjoyed playing there and they're a good bunch.

That would be an EVIL machine!!

Cheers man..

ive looked on you tube etc and most say to get some ex army goggles as they’re designed not to fog or your dead basically...

ill see see what the crack is first I reckon...

are te there any surplus stores you’d recommend? As the one in Colwyn bay near me is a bit pricey for what he’s got...

Actually I think the ESS ICE are military issue?  Unfortunately fogging is an eternal problem and no-one has yet found the "holy grail" solution to it (apart from maybe dual lens goggles).

I've bought from that place in Colwyn Bay myself, pretty good service including ordering stuff in but I think most are similar prices to be honest.  If you want cheaper then Ebay is the place to go but you obviously can't try stuff on.  There's Soldier of Fortune in Corwyn, Denbigh Army Surplus in Denbigh (obviously!) and Army & Navy Stores on the Wirral but I think that's pretty much it.  Denbigh can be quite a good one as they have a container where everything in it is £5 and they're not silly on their normal prices either.

Do you ever go to any events like that handstands one?? That looks like a right laugh..

The ExSite is the main site that I play at and where my UKARA registration is based.  It's something like 200 acres, mixture of woodland, open ground and a quarry, plus there's the village as well.  Great site but be prepared and wear good footwear as it's pretty hilly!

There aren't any "local" FB groups that I'm aware of but pretty much all sites have their own.  Some of the airsoft FB groups can be a bit hit and miss, as a lot of others on here will attest to, although some of the more specialised ones (particular guns like snipers or NGRS) are usually okay.  The only one I'm a member of is Airsoft Heretics for the laughs and silliness that get posted.

Unfortunately I don't usually get the time to get out to some of the bigger events, I tend to have far too much going on anyway.  The wife and I are exec committee members of the Honda Owners Club and that can take up a bit of time too.  I'd love to get out to some big stuff and might see if I can get some trips organised for next year with the gang from our site.  Saying that, if us or S&A are having night games they tend to be a good laugh.
