G&G GC16 Predator Internal Upgrades

Ive been in airsoft about 6 months now. Got my UKARA and my first RIF a G&G GC16 Predator and pretty much sorted my external upgrades (with a far off plan to write Plisken on the side and give it a snake skin paint job, paint the fangs white, the suppressor red and stick googly eyes on it)

But now im happy with the externals im looking at internal upgrades.

Ive searched through the forum and while theres lots of helpful stuff there not much for the Predator specifically so thought id start this and update as I go.

What im aiming for?

As stock theres very little I can fault, running on 9.6 NiMh the rifle is pretty accurate with a good ROF and ok range and haven't had any problems.

My local site Dogtag have a 350 fps limit for ARs.

So far the chronos on the rifle have been averaging around 310fps on 0.20s.

Im happy with ROF (I stick to semi most the time anyway) so my main aim is to get the FPS/range close to the site limit and any quality of life improvements I can make while im at.

What upgrades?

So ive done lots of research and found some useful videos

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWykDYLErqk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb3ZxO4CcGs&t=767s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmdFJFjpPdQ&t=1527s

and as I understand the Predator should already have stock a 6.03 barrel and M100 spring (correct me if im wrong). So theres little need for a barrel upgrade and would make little difference.

While a spring upgrade would increase the FPS as I understand it the first thing should be to improve the compression. From what ive found the stock piston is polymer and doesn't always have a great airseal and is the first thing that needs upgrading along with other little compression improvements.

So upgrades list:

1. Grease where needed (I think this is the right stuff https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/grease/super-lube-synthetic-grease-10ml-syringe)

2. Make sure the hop up is snug in the receiver.

3. Check piston compression and if necessary replace piston and piston head (https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/pistons/ra-15-tooth-piston https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/pistons-heads/ra-piston-head-double-oring-aluminium)

4. If piston compression is ok look into an M110 spring.

5. Gearbox shimming.

Questions?

So my questions for those with more knowledge (I think that's pretty much everyone)

Am I right about the stock barrel and spring?

I think these are correct replacement piston and head but correct me if im wrong?

If I upgrade the spring im assuming this would put more stress on the gears and motor. Would these need upgrading or can the stock handle it?

Im currently running the rifle on 9.6 NiMh but want to upgrade to 11.1 LiPos at some point. I understand this can increase ROF but would it make a difference to FPS and should be looked at before any internal upgrades.?

Upgrades(in order of cost effectiveness)

- Lipo or Life battery(hasn’t the GC16 already got the mosfet in to run on 11.1v-someone correct me if I’m wrong)

-Heavier ammo(minimum 0.28g until you upgrade your hop rubber)

-Prommy purple hop rubber and nub(or get that G&G flat hopped)

Battery will not increase FPS, just RoF and trigger response.

Service the gearbox- check for wear etc before buying new parts.

I wouldn’t change the barrel until very long down the line.

Good choice of parts, Message @ak2m4 about compatibility, he knows his stuff and is super helpful. If he says to get something else, I’d trust his opinion.

-LiPo - My research before i bought the rifle suggested initial issues when running 11.1 LiPo but had since been resolved so went to surplusstore wanting LiPos but was told their warranty only covered the 9.6 NiHms so been running them for the duration of the warranty. Has now passed so will look into LiPos.

-Heavier Ammo - Site chronos all guns on .2s and i stuck with those for a while but recently switched to .25s and much happier with them. Will certainly look into .28s

-Hop -  Thanks forgot about hop and should probably look into that near top of the todo list. I dont imagine it makes a huge increase to FPS but could tip over the limit if done after the other upgrades. https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/hop-up-buckings-nubs/laylax-prometheus-bucking-purple

Thanks for the info
