Gamesmanship?

Had something happen this weekend that I've never experienced before. I'll give a brief description of both instances then wait for replies. Same player in both, player was on opposite team.

Instance 1;

Tracked opposing player for a way, he showed himself, I shot, hit, no hand went up, shot again, possibly missed as I heard a crack but hand still didn't go up. I was a bit naughty next, lifted my aim a bit and let a third one off, definitely hit (there was a bit of a squeal) although hand still didn't go up. Player then walked over to nearby barricade and started trying to have a conversation about which sniper I had and comparing like for like, what he was using, you know, normal safe zone banter but mid game. I'm for having a good banter but not mid game.

Instance 2;

I'm already alerted to this individual, he puts both hands up, comes out of bunker walking towards us shouting "parlee". 2 of his team mates are walking behind him and are still guns up so I shot both of them and then a quick shout to player asking if he's dead or not? He continues shouting "parlee" and not being taken for a fool I put one into him as well to make sure (I don't do parlee). Weirdest thing now is he came into our bunker and did the same again, started to have a conversation with a player of ours, BBs wizzing all around them, he was really trying to engage our guy in a convo, he let out quickly, "if I wanted to kill you I could have done" to which my reply was "no you wouldn't, I popped you as you were walking towards us" but still another mid game attempt at conversation and he even pulled his gun up and started shooting back at his own team !?!?!?!

I'm totally perplexed by this. Not angry or cheesed off, just really didn't understand it other than being totally oblivious to other people wanting to play airsoft on a game day or a meagre attempt at trying to recon the enemy team from up close. I'll give him, he was actually alright, we had a good convo about filing the bridge off a barrel to use a ML bucking on a VSR as we were walking back to safe zone. Wouldn't have minded the full conversation out of a game and would probably have been a lot more forthcoming with my responses.

Thoughts? Feelings? Responses?

Some folk are just there for the chat rather than the game, is the long and the short of it.

See also: dressing up; showing off their gun collection; winning in God Mode.

Just shrug and play the game with the folk who are there to play the game.

Chat away, but if you’re interfering with the game you need fucking off. Forums and the safe zone are for chatting about stuff. While 99% of airsofters I’ve met have been good guys and girls who’ll happily have a chat with you, you always get that one knobhead who knows everything.

if I was marshalling he’d have been made to sit in the safe zone for a game and if he did it again, booted out. Don’t take your hit and you’re gone.

out of curiosity (because I’m bored and I want to rant about speedsofters😂) what did he look like?

Sounds like a lack of social awareness/ability to read cues that people didn't want to talk midgame. I invariably encounter people like this on long train journeys, they want to chat and tell me their life story; I smile, nod and turn away but to no effect.

Surely shooting them on approach is an easily readable cue?😂

If only I could get away with that on the train...

Yeh sounds like hes on the spectrum so to speak.  Same issue with one kid at my local site who just kept following me around chatting my head off, I eventually had to politely tell him to leave me the fuck alone.

I don't think it was taken on board.

Unfortunately not a speedsofter. Had problems overcoming an issue that I didn't encounter as I had planned well.

Some days I don't even leave the safe zone, there is always someone with a broken (insert airsoft thingy) who is free to chat.

Sad, I know, but I'm waiting for different kind of experience. Something cinematic and mentally challenging.

Speaking of gamesmanship Sportsmanship :lol: :

I was playing a game at Apocalypse sunday just gone. I'd setup with another fella on the side of a road to ambush any players that had decided to follow our team who was escorting a medic to a casualty. Part of the afternoon game scenario... we were about 30-40 yards apart.

One enemy player stepped out and I sent a few rounds of burst fire his way. He never returned fire but called hit.

Now he was a gentlemen as I hadn't realised I'd made a schoolboy error; my midcap was empty so all I did was make a noise his way. DOH!

Nevertheless he called "hit" as I had the jump on him.

SO if you're a member on here "I thank you!" Very kind and sporting of him. :) Proper gentlemen.

It doesn't sound quite right to me. Safe zone or walking to and from safe zone and game area for talking. If you are hit and need to stand still next to other dead players then have a little chat if you want. First and foremost call your hits. I wouldn't think of walking over to the enemy for a chinwag mid game. I'm there to play. Just sounds bizarre

i do this on occasion when someone's proper had the drop on me, usually they do fire but i don't feel the hit or it's hit a twig or something stupid and i feel like not calling would be a proper dick move.

had it happen last day i was out actually, cqb i bailed past a corner expecting one guy (who i promptly shot) but spied three more all staring at me, didn't feel the hits but given it was next to point blank and i didn't fancy having 3 guys unload on me at once i took it anyway.

can be a tricky one to call though, so i don't really have a hard and fast rule for it.

I think that the hardest game for telling if I was hit or not was was about 6 weeks ago at gunman in the snow. there were bits of snow and ice constantly falling off the trees and since the trees were quite tall I found it hard to tell between a bb and some ice.

I probably got it wrong a lot, but as has been said all you can do is call it if you feel a hit (unless you're in the safe zone) or if you're not sure give them the benefit of the doubt. it's a much nicer game to play for everyone that way 🙂

we were discussing this last sunday as it was snowing that a hailstorm would be terrible in an airsoft game:

"hit"

"HIT"

"HIIIIIIT"

"I'M FUCKIN HIT!"

"STOP SHOOTING YOU KNOB"
