The trousers and shirts are Crye same maker as the ARV kit ...jackets are Arc'teryx and stupidly expensive

So essentially whoever made the decision on their "loadout" literally went with all the most expensive kit available ?

Nice to see good use of taxpayers money, no doubt done when everyone else was expected to cut costs & personnel.

😬

The kit that was chosen was appropriate for the role....its worn for 12hrs a day every day has to be able to be used in all weathers and conditions ....it is expensive but it works ....and it's far far better than the original stuff that was given to Arvs and SFOs.....maybe do the job before criticising the choices

So why aren't serving soldiers issued with he same kit ?, that's a job I used to do, so I know all the same requirements are applicable, my point is that there's plenty of kit brands that would do the same job at considerably less cost, by your own admission it's stupidly expensive.

no need to be a dick about it 😏

Tackle me and my mate both work in offices. But he has a much better computer cause the specific job he needs to do requires a much better computer then my job.  we could swap computers but he'd get less work done and i wouldn't get any more done. its basically like that, but on a much bigger scale

George, we're talking about trousers/tops/jackets, just because a guy is sco19 (as a good friend of mine is), doesn't mean he's gonna be more physical, or spend more time exposed to the elements, than many of his colleagues that work in so called "lesser" roles in the police, or any of the services for that matter.

I'm most definitely not denigrating the roles of anybody, as a squaddie I detested the attitude of some guys who referred to everybody else as "craphats", in my mind it's all about teamwork across all forces & services, my only point was to question the absurd costs that are sometimes hard to justify.

my mate who's sco19 admits to some extremely wasteful "jollies" he's been on, including nearly a month in the West Indies as an advisor during a prison riot, 99% of the time he was pissing it up sitting by the pool working on his tan, all on full pay & expenses lol, all the while I was looking after his 14ft Burmese python, who wanted to eat me on one occasion, slippery git.

point is, some departments seem to get away financial "murder", while others can be found having to share kit.

It is a matter of scale; affordable to get top quality kit for specialist team as opposed to buying for the whole police force. The same way that the army does not buy Gucci kit for everyone, just a very small number who require it. Difference in 300 sets as opposed to 100,000. Approved companies offer government discounts, which is cheaper than a civvie will pay for the same kit.

The SFOs get the best kit it's always been that way within CO19 ...the ARVs are now catching up but only because quite rightly it was pointed out that they take the same risks and should have the same PPE ....its miserable being stuck in a containment position in the cold and rain in gear that doesn't keep you dry at least so it's a reasonable expectation to provide decent kit . The new kit and uplift was paid for from the CT budget so the rest of the force didn't suffer financially and the uplift Nationwide in Arv and CTsfos also came from that budget not directly from a policing budget ....Some of the kit choices forced upon officers conea from a very few making the decisions...sometimes that is a good thing many times it isn't.  Not trying to be a dick about it but having used old and new kit I know what's better when it's cold and raining and I have to kneel for any period of time ...maybe it's just my old bones 1🤣

Yep I know, clearly giving that kinda kit to everyone would go badly, lol most I'd it would end up on eBay for beer tokens, but as I've pointed out, my mate, actually my son's godparent, is often proclaiming the wasteful procedures in place, in my own defense I've never actually asked him what brands their currently using (although I will do after this), but I still don't see that, for example, a £200 pair of trousers will a fo perform better than if he had a £60 pair of Keck's, in much the same way having the Gucci kit doesn't make you a better airsofter.

I think some people are misinterpreting my moan for a dig at the guys at the sharp end, which clearly it's not.

PS. Ironically, me mate spends a lot of time working undercover, during which he wears his own clothes (most of which have an outdoor/climbing theme), so if you see a big fella in central London looking like he should be up Ben Nevis, it's prob him 😂
