Just out of interest from a site owner and player, what is your favourate woodland scenario/game?

I really enjoy the vip escort, evade and escape games that run over the entire day myself :) plenty of firefights with a few decoy and sneak runs thrown in.

what about you guys ?

Locate and defend/capture.  One team has to locate objects (i.e large ammo boxes) which are placed across the site and cannot be moved and once found defend them from the attacking team, which is also seeking the objects to capture. If the attacking team capture the object and can hold the position for 5 minutes then the defenders can no longer re-capture it. Winner is team with most objects at end of game.

Depending on numbers playing, for example 20 per side, then use 3 objects which splits the defenders into smaller groups and allows the attackers to decide whether to attempt to capture all the objects at the same time or to concentrate their force on one object.  The defenders get stronger once they lose an object because they are not dividing their numbers which in turn makes it harder for the attackers to capture the next object.

A good mix is always best but I always like the attack/defend games myself because it forces players to specific areas for plenty of action. Bomb dump doing conquest mode was fun as you could choose to attack the next flag or defend a flag you have already taken

Played a defend the convoy game once which was awesome. There was a track through the site which helped but was great fun as a flanking defender trying to flush out ambushers and sneaking behind the defenders lines. Basically one team had to get various boxes and items from one end to the other but the items could not stray more than a few metres off the track. Defenders had a teams which followed the boxes and teams of flankers (me) which went looking for ambushers. Defenders dropped back set number of feet behind the last player in the convoy to respawn.

Attackers could set ambush points and had to fall back to a seperate spawn (we passed the spawn on the convoy which made that area very difficult).

Was great fun, sadly my mate sodded his ankle so didnt get to play as an attacker :(

Never played (probably wont work lol) but love the idea of many smaller fire teams all vs each other in a woodland setting

There's a couple of games they run at EAG Dorking that I really like.

The Peg game (usually the warm up game at the start of the day) is a good laugh.

Two teams and a box of pegs in the middle. Have to run to the middle and get a peg back to your spawn. Good fun and gets the blood pumping for the day.

And there's another game where there is two bombs in play, usually hidden. You have to find your team's bomb and detonate it in the enemies base. Good mix of attacking and defending and good team work usually follows as well.

Just don't over complicate any games - if you're a site owner then you know that no matter what you do, or how hard you try, you'll always get a few puddings turning up who don't listen to game briefs etc. This just ruins a well; thought-out game for the other players who want to play it the way it was/is intended.

I've noticed that if you spend 10 minutes explaining a game and some people don't understand the concept - just liken it to a Call of Duty game type and they get it straight away haha.

I've been to a few sites where they explain "capture point" games over a 15 minute brief, when all they have to say is "COD Domination".

Same goes for games where you have to eliminate the enemy team & take their bands (or some kind of token to prove you got the kill), all you have to say is "COD Kill Confirmed"

Urgh, peg game.... Worked when played at the back field not in the paintball field :(

Agreed with the keep it simple, over complicated games always put me to sleep and I LOVE objective based games, however, most games tend to end up with 50% of a team playing team deathmatch, 25% standing in the spawn sniping or shouting orders/playing with set ups and 15% actually going for the objective and 10% doing god knows what!

Upwood had a game with multiple objectives and points, and was over so quick cos half my team didnt care for the objectives so the enemy just sprinted to where they were supposed to be to set things up and take the buildings as our team wasnt defending :( on paper and in brief it sounds great, but the teams have to buy into the idea too...

We dont actually brief on the game tbh, each player is given a site map and on the back is a listed times and objectives or tasks they are to carry during the day by a set time, the only brief we give is the safety brief the objectives change every 30 mins, So one side might have the objective of capture and search the village for the mobile phone to detonate a bomb planted earlier at the temple. As where the other teams objective might be to clear and secure the village ( we might have left a big itel document in one of the huts revealing the bomb in the temple and that the mobile is somewhere in the village, but if they don't clear all the buildings correctly they might never know about it lol ) We like to put little twists into games to keep the players interested :) but I defo get what your saying about over complicating game instructions

I like that idea, down here all the sites tend to run smaller games throughout the day, normally three or four depending on the times allowed etc..

I like the idea of whole day rolling games with objectives like yours.

any game is a good game as long as it relates to the amount of people on site, we had a great 1/2 day with lots of party players, after lunch party people went home leaving around 8/side and then the event organisers decided to play a search and recover  game which used the entire site,  i might of well have taken the dog for a walk as contact and parcels were far and few between.

Keep your type of games played based on the amount of players

At AWA, we play a bomb capture and reposition at enemy HQ Scenario.

Offensive team had unlimited respawns. Defenders get 3 lives. Bomb is a used Calor bottle. Can last hours. Awesome!

I like games that make use of their woodland setting and scale but as above, suitable numbers are key. There's one mode I like where a fixed objective releases something over time - a set amount of liquid every 15 mins or whatever, which you have to obtain. Over a larger site it can give players choices (especially if there is more than 1 of these) on whether to attack, defend, strike routes between the objective and the enemy base or whatever, and can be a bit more dynamic than standard BF/Conquest type games.

Never played VIP or escape and evade. Sound fun.

the only games that are played at my local sites are HQ Defence, Collect the gold bars, and capture the flag. There are other game modes apparently but they seem to all be the same thing, just slightly varied. Like, capture the 2 flags, for example :P

My favourite is one team has to get into a defensive position and has a hostage to defend, the attacking team has to fight to get the hostage then extract it.

The defending team has 2 lives, one when defending and another once they've got to stop the hostage extraction.
