Nope, if a G&G m4 (usually polymer) costs more than £160 look elsewhere.

Currently the most popular M4 recommendations for newbies are G&G CM16/18 (£125-160) and Krytac M4 (£340).

Hi again :)

Like others avoid GBBRs for first timers because

  • yes they are cool
  • yes it feels and operates like a real gun
  • yes it sounds and feels waaaaay cooler when you shoot it

However you must consider

  • It will weigh the same or almost the same as a real gun
  • The mags are heavier normally and you have to carry this, Vector mags could be used to bludgeon people if you wanted to
  • The mags are normally more expensive
  • They normally have the same capacity as the real thing, you will feel a bit miffed when shooting 1 or 2 shots at people and they are able to practically piss shots at you all day with their 450 hi cap maracas
  • Gas will start to become expensive even if you buy propane in bulk and HPA'ing the gun can be a hassle (he initial set up will be)
  • You have to maintain it almost like a real gun cleaning it after a days of use, AEGs you can get away with a few game days or even a year if your sloppy or lazy
  • They can get temperamental in the winter
  • First shot to last shot consistency is never the same, a decent AEG will keep its FPS at 330FPS +/- 10 say from fist shot to the 400th shot, as GBBR will often have 330FPS first shot down to 300FPS on the last shot as the gas in the mag expires
  • Cheapo crappy clone scopes/RDS et al may not hold zero on GBBRs due to the recoil, model and brand dependant.

Now while it seems im slating GBBRs rest assured i'm not, i owned a KWA Kriss Vector, upgraded the hell out of it, had about 8 mags, even had some rare parts and loved shooting it, did i ever field it? Hell NO! My Polarstar M4 did far better in terms of rate of fire, shot to shot consistency, range, weight of the gun and the mags.

That said i did buy a APS CAM 870 Shell ejecting shotgun (can be impractical as hell) which i use soley for CQB and i am toying with the idea of getting an AK 47 (or alike, AK 101 tingles my fancy) GBBR and that's going against two things of mine, 1 its a GBBR and 2 its an AK but still :D

Like everyone has said avoid shops with "BB" in the title as they usually specialise in cheap sub £100 two tone plastic shite barely able to keep up with a G&G Combat Machine.

I'd avoid WE, their stuff can be hit and miss at times, in my experience very much a miss, mate of mine bought a WE SCAR L - only worked a few times, I had a WE M92FS - always thought a pistol should do better, got a TM M92FS and realised yes they can.

Like said if your set on getting a GBBR then fine but aim for an AK or M4 GHK, if you dont mind an electric but want the recoil feeling then get a TM Recoil gun if you dont mind the plastic receivers, trust me your arms will love you for the plastic and its pretty good stuff and you soon forget that its plastic.

Most people chose AKs or M4s as they are easy platforms to start with in terms of upgrading, spares, parts and cheaper to run on the whole due to the vast majority of things available to them.

Dont do what i did when i got my first gun at JustBBGuns having been convinced by Jambwow and bought a full metal G&G M14 EBR-S, thought i was the greatest thing ever but then realised that it weighed a ton, mags were pricey, that mags had to be G&G ones. I sold it within a year and got the G&G TR4-18 short in Tan.

The one you have chosen:

http://www.patrolbase.co.uk/airsoft-m4-m15-m16-variants/g-g-gt-advanced-418-electric-blowback-aeg-black.htm#.WHApqhuLRhF

Is G&G's take on a H&K 416 M4 style rifle, it costs so much because its part of the top of the line range, made of full metal and has the pneumatic blowback action which is cool, i had one in tan last year and it was one of my finest AEGs able to fire 341FPS +/- 2 (yes the deviation was that small) using .20g BBs and had a ROF of 24RPS, upgraded the hell out of it to shoot like that and keep the blowback action. After many year of service it died, dunno why, couldn't be arsed to fix it and sold it, bought a new G&P and Polarstarred it.

However if your looking to spend £550 on an AEG then ill point you in the direction of a Krytac CRB, check Airsoft Zone as well they have good prices and are a legit Airsoft shop, websites dog slow but if you can get to Romford in London they will be happy to help, they dont lie to make a sale either.

Electric blowback is little more than a moving bolt cover at the cost of rate of fire and battery life from what ive seen in my limited experience..

Well thats great to know. I will try and head down towards airsoft zone at some point. its about 60 miles away from me currently.

With regards to GBBR who would be the brands to go for in the future.

i think iam looking at getting a AEG now but would at somepoint like to have a GBBR maybe even for summer skirmishes.

GBBR - TM M4 MWS might be a good start as fps should always stay site legal with correct gas for weather.

High end AEG - check out the TM recoil series. The SCAR H is very, very nice.

Look at the GHK guns for GBBRs.

Look at TM, Krytac, ICS for AEGs other brands are worth looking at but I'll not recommend somit I've not owned.

i would say get a gbbr as a second gun to an AEG, i have a ghk m4 btw , my site has no FPS limits so its not a problem for me but what i would do and what i will do so i can run mine on other sites is file off part of the fire selector {guides on youtube} so its locked to semi auto and then it can be classed as a DMR , theres also 1joule nozzles you can get to lower fps for ghk models but i aint looked into that i dont like full auto on gbbrs anyway, they are as realistic as your going to get though

thanks for this. I think during a little bit of general browsing today I found a pretty decent GHK GBB i believe it was either a m4 variant or what would be a H&K 416 in real life.

where do you play that has no limits?

battle-tec, guernsey, channel islands, dont know the exact reasons of why we dont have limits but we dont run into problems because of it so i guess they dont see the point of downgrading the guns for something thats not really an issue, just respect the people your shooting at and protect your bare skin if you dont like the sting,

lol, minimum engagement distance

hahaha,, ahh nope, you can surrender people if your close enough but thats not a kill unless they agree to being surrended , they could also say no and try there luck and shoot at you, as iv learnt the hard way its best to just single shoot them anyway and avoid that situation, unless your barrel is directly touching them , heres the sites website dont think its been updated for awhile though, one of the sites is an actual german ww2 bunker with above ground wooded area, http://www.battletec.co.uk/

Sounds good, I suppose the good thing is about your site is everyone must pretty much know everyone else so no one must take the piss with stupidly high FPS or crappy game play!!

yea pretty much it, and theres not many people that tune there own guns here or would turn up with stupidly high powered guns like you might get in the uk, they even have a kids game in the morning before the adults with no fps rules lol , no problems though, just found this video of the actual mirus site being used as a mountain bike course lol , its abit bigger then what you see here there though, in the center of the bunker is a huge gun ring {straight through 48 seconds into the video } that mounted a massive gun that would of taken out ships, there two other stair wells to get into the bunker at opposite ends and a ladder that goes down into the gun ring , its a pretty decent site but as you can tell its mainly CQB ish

Yeh, but UK limits are really set (until recently) by insurers. Are these sites properly insured? Which insurance company isn't specifying that sort of thing? Seems a bit mad to me to rely on the good nature of people not to mess things up, especially when plenty of good natured players just don't know how/own the equipment to properly crono their imported gat that's shooting at 390ft/s on a .20.

I honestly probably wouldn't play there, because that's just dangerous for a CQB environment for site owners to be so damn lax.
