BBC News Flash

Mercenaries from South Africa have proved quite decisive in helping the Nigerian military turn around its campaign against a local war lord Gabriel Lubanga known to the locals as the child of the devil. Lubanga is the leader of a large militia force who is heavily armed and well trained which has earned them the name known as the Bakassi Boys.

The mercenaries with their roots in South Africa, most of whom are former apartheid-era special security forces primarily chosen for being excellent marksman with expert sniper training run by Colonel Eeben Barlow, a former commander in the South African Defence Force, the group of bush warfare experts were recruited in top secrecy to train and become an elite strike group within Nigeria's disorganised, demoralised army.

The training they received does not fit the standard image of an army of liberation. But after just three months on the ground, a squad of grizzled, ageing mercenaries have helped to end a six-long year reign of terror in northern Nigeria.

As a result the mercenaries have gained intel that Lubanga is brokering a deal with a well known Cameroonian war lord which will get him enough arms men and munitions to track and kill the mercenaries before they can do any more harm to his plans for the future. Payment will be in the form of blood diamonds, precious gems and large quantities of gold which have been sauced locally at a nearby village with huge mining potential.

Sky news update.

It has come to light that the mercenary commander in charge of the now fugitive elite sniper unit has acquired some of the blood diamonds and gold bullion which were supposed to pay for manpower and munitions to hunt them down. Since the Mercenary attack across the border the Cameroonian defence force leader has sent small recce teams across the border regions on long range patrols to try to find the mercenaries who raided there stronghold.

As a result the Mercenary commander has leaked the news to locals in the area that the C.D.F has crossed the border to try and retrieve the bounty which was so easily taken from them. This has raised concern with Bakassi Boys local war lord Gabriel Lubanga and he also sees this as a chance to gain extra funds should he capture any of the mercenaries and has also told his troops to engage the C.D.F should the chance arise.

Tensions in the area are already fragile and locals are said to have fled the local areas of which the Bakassi boys and C.D.F are currently deploying there troops.

More news to follow as soon as it arrives.
