Is ir just me but do you get an overwhelming urge to massacre anyone wearing a 'Shakespeare' Vendetta Mask?

You mean Guy Fawkes?

V for Vendetta used a Guy Fawkes mask as a symbol of revolution.

idk, they make good fun of the Scientology lot so there's that.

+ the whole wikileaks defence thing that went on, taking down mastercard etc.

They're pretty active activists at the moment aswell. Got their fingers in all sorts of pies around the world. Quite a big change from being blackhat hackers, though.

I have a guy fawkes mask lying around, wouldn't wear it on a game day because a BB would go straight through it. But I have no beef with those that do wear them.

the people that recently cyber attacked Israel, the crash some website by overloading them with traffic and then hacked a JOB SITE and stole people details!!! ohhh hardcore. so they stole the details of ordinary people looking for ordinary jobs, the people that they are supposedly fighting for.

I understand the use of the mask, using guy fawkes as a symbol of the fight against a fascist state. but Guy Fawkes took action and so did V in V for Vendetta, not just poke at Governments with a really long super soft foam and bubble wrapped stick.

Guy Fawkes was a Terrorist. Wikileaks and Anonymous are self serving publicity hounds.

Those that wear the mask whenever there is a protest are fools.

I hate the bloody V For Vendetta comic. I hate everything by Alan Moore.

Maybe I am the problem.

I remember back in the day when Anonymous was nothing like its current form and only ever did something if they found it hilarious (for the lulz).

Ever since the scientology shenanigans it gained popularity with people with political agendas, and now tries to act like some kind of sinister internet army.

Can i point out "Anonymous" is not a club, group or party. It's a wild collection of thoughts and ideas. (Inspired by the ending of V for Vendetta where everyone is seen donning the mask).

Some will do good, some will do bad. Some are not politically motivated and just troll. You cannot put sweeping statements on Anonymous as there is no cohesion or agreement within the people.

Anonymous is not a "hacking group" which the media portrays. Between the guys hacking Paypal and you viewing AFUK as a guest, there is no difference. You are both Anon.

As with the stick; Mastercard, Visa and Paypal lost a lot of money from the downtime after the DDOS attacks. Much more effective than signing petitions and waving peace banners.

This is the technological age, cyber attacks are the new riots. Fawkes lived in a time where the only means of revolt is through violence. And obviously V is a cartoon character, not real.

I own a guy fawkes mask, its great for party's, and really winds the neighbours up when 30 people are all listening to heavy metal in the back yard drinking and all wearing the mask at 3 in the morning

Anonymous originally was none of those things.

It stems from 4chan where posting without a name tags the user as anonymous.

They spent their time trolling places like habbohotel, finding dox on animal abusers and reporting them to the police, phoning up gamestop and asking for battletoads, raiding forums/messageboards and blaming it on ebaumsworld as well as all kinds of other amusing crap.

The whole v mask bullshit only really started after the Scientology protests. Some people watched that film one too many times.

Yeah it came out of 4chan, but really only the name.

The whole movement came out of the film.

Only partly inspired by, the original anti-scientology protests and raids were started by 4chan, due to the media attention this received it was taken up by those with political motivations, anarchists and people who think it's mad edgy.

Again, anonymous is not a group. Scientology may have been 4chan, but the "anonymous" mantra is taken directly out of the film.

Anonymous is simultaneously both linked to 4chan, and also has nothing to do with 4chan.

There have been anonymous movements done from lone individuals with their own agendas.
